Broke the Glass on reflector - how vital

Its the weekend so it'll take me a week to get the glass replaced (I travel out of town first thing Monday morning).

Can I still use the reflector without the glass temporarily for the next few days. I am using a 400W MH bulb. Will there be extra heat generated onto the plants? Obviously the inline fan will not work as well. Also is there an extra danger of fire without the glass?

Finally is the glass special, or tempered or anything like that?

Thanks in advance.

Cheers

try to get the glass cover ASAP! i broke one of mine and i had significant heat issues. my plants went through a couple days of heat stress before adding another fan. mine was only 250 watt. you say yours is 400? better get a fan blowing just underneath the light.

since my model light is no longer in production, it took my hydro store owner a few weeks to track down the specific piece of glass! i'm not sure what type of glass it is, though.

oh, and make sure the leafs stay clear of the bulbs or you will have a fire hazard!

Most of the time the glass is tempered, if it's not the heat could break it.

I wouldn't worry about fire.

Your right about your fan not working as well, try covering the intake up partially. If smell is a factor it well be sucking the smell through the reflector.
