Breeding question

Hey all,

I am looking to create a hemp variety of my own and take it all the way to F6 or IBL. Is it only recommended to begin with two IBL varieties? The two parents that I am looking to start with are a male hemp kush F1 and a separate female F1 (not brother and sister, these are two F1 from separate lineages).
Can I build a sound program like this? What can I expect from the F1 offspring of these two F1?

You can breed anything you want. Give it a go and see what the results are. I myself have embarked on several breeding projects and I did start with IBL's and landraces. But you don't have to. Most of the popular strains are just crosses of hybrids that have been around for years and they just keep crossing them with other crosses. So no you don't have to start with IBL's. Some of the seeds people are paying $20+ a piece for are just based off of other peoples work. None of these younger pollen chuckers were even around when the good Haze, Kush, Skunk, etc... strains first hit the streets. Many are just chucking as fast as they can and seeing what sticks.

But I don't really understand what you're trying to do. Are you looking for a high CBD strain to process for the CBD that you can call your own? If so It's a goal within your reach and won't be that hard to achieve.

I'm about to pop some F5 seeds from a Durban + Pakistani Chitral Kush cross I've been working on for a couple of years. Both were IBL's. It's been a very rewarding journey and I am happy with the results so far. So I say make your own path and enjoy it.

Good luck. :weed:

By hemp I assume CBD? you are going to really want to find a lab to do a chromatography mass spectrometer analysis to ensure you are breeding true to your plan. Crosses like a F1 (Kush x Hemp) are going to yield a very diverse group of progeny.

I myself am in the midst of stabilizing 3 x crosses of (1 x high cbd/0% thc indica) (high cbd/mid thc) and (low/high).
I can tell you it is very pricey to outsource the lab. Also if this is your first breeding program, I would just try and get seeds first.
Knowing when to pollinate is also a learning curve.

To answer your question.
1. Yes, you totally could build a program around it. I would suggest getting to say F3 or BX1 of your current strains to ensure less variation in the cross. This will ensure your results are deliberate.
2. If you cross F1s (unstable genetics) you are going to get a super wide range of offspring. This was the first thing I did, and I can tell you that the results were unusable in my opinion. I ended up just giving away a few hundred seeds.

Good luck though, it is probably going to be a super fun project.

Also listen to @xtsho I have seen pics of his Durbistani project and they are fire.
