bottom of crop not receiving enough light??

i have a 600watt hps bulb over 4 plants in 18 litre pots the top of the plants are fine but as they are so bushy the bottom of the plants are not receiving much light , any ideas?? i was going to take some leaves of but i was advised not to ????

Well it won't hurt to remove lower leaves that aren't doing anything...just don't remove the top leaves that are closest to the light, unless of course they are in danger of growing into the lights...lol. But for real most of that bottom growth isn't doing a whole lot, and I have found that you can get better results by removing most lower growth...this is called lollipopping, and a lot of folks prefer to use this practice...

hace tried cfl and didn't get a good yield out of it so am back to using hps ,,i am about 3 weeks in to flower is this to late to start taking off branches off the bottom that arnt doing a lot??

yea you can trim some of the leaves, not too many, never more than 1/3rd. try to space it out. not only for light, but increased air flow.

adding CFLs down low helps a lot, or topping/tieing them down spreads the plant out and you wont get the dense bushes

u can bottom-dress them a bit, but for some substantial added penetration, I'd recommend getting a MH and putting it in there with the HPS too... It will only help in every way, as long as u can maintain good temp control... This is how I grow mine... I find higher yields, and more trichome production, as well as shorter internodal spacing, and overall happier plants with HPS and MH together...
