bottom growth yellowing

friend of mine has a plant in a tub, outside soil was transplanted with plant so there wouldn't be a change in soil... the plant has been transplanted for about three days at this point, and the leaves on the very bottom are completely yellow.

temp is in 70's, he had it on a 12/12 cycle, but now i told him to switch it to 20 to 24 hrs of light daily... that might have been the problem, but the new growth on top looks pretty healthy, so i doubt that's the cause.

he is using a miracle gro plant food, and im 95% sure that is the problem. 24-8-16 nutrient levels. he has 4 channels that penetrate the soil at different levels, this is where he waters every 2-3 days.

the tub it is in doesnt have a way to drain, so he doesn't wanna flush it if possible that way he doesn't have to cut the tote up,

does anyone have any other ideas besides a deficiency or toxicity in a nute level? and any specifics for whether n,p,or k causing it?

older growth yellowing and new stem growth turning purple means lockout of nitrogen or insufficient amount in the medium.

okay... so i think ur both right. if the top isn't purpling like u said then there isn't a toxicity so the ferts are okay for now. but i know that ratio isn't making the plant lack nitrogen, so what do u think about the pH level... i bet if the pH was balanced then there wouldn't be any further issue taking in the nutes... im gonna try that for now, any other ideas let me know

He held off doing anything, those leaves died off but there is healthy new growth all over the plant. pH only issue. Thanks.
