Botched FIM

Ahh, the road out of n00b-ville is fraught with detours and missteps. I fimmed a plant a few days ago, or rather, I tried to fim it. Instead, as it turns out I just mutilated it. Nothing she won't outgrow, but I think I wasn't bold enough in my fim-cut and did not remove enough of the leafy part of the grow tip. As a few days have passed, I can see that the baby leaves are growing -- into sad mutilated vestiges of their former potential selves.

I don't know if this will ultimately have a fimming effect, and if the branches at that node will start to grow earlier than they normally would, of if the upward growth will continue, leaving that node with chopped leaves and nothing else.

Any advice from fim pros welcomed and encouraged.

Looks like you did it right to me.

I've been FIMing a large number of plants, all grown from the same seed source and likely the same variety (very little variation in what I'm observing so far). I've discovered one thing -- FIMing "success" seems to be affected by the timing of the FIM. Some plants took several days to grow out what was FIM'd, whereas others started growing out that specific portion within HOURS (I came back to them a half hour later and thought I'd fucked up on this one, so I FIMd it again, came back later that afternoon and more than a half inch had grown out AGAIN). That being said, I am not yet sure how to determine with the best time is, in each plant's growing phase, to FIM. By that I mean what areas of the plant are growing most, they don't seem to grow all areas uniformly. Does that make sense?

Makes perfect sense, Seamaiden. I think I was presuming the FIMmed leaves wouldn't grow back much, that I'd just be left with two branches at that node, plus two branches at the node below. Now that I think about it, it wasn't a very realistic presumption -- of course parts of the FIMmed leaves would continue to grow. Like, duh.

I'll just have to wait and see how this develops over the next few days. I'm not eager to FIM the same plant right away, I'm afraid cause too much stress and decrease her chances of actually becoming a healthy "her". At this point I have no idea what the sex is, but I can hope.

Any successful (or not) fim pics you can share so I have a better idea of what to look for?

Check out my gallery, and I'll go outside right now and take some more pix, get them up onto my laptop. I'll try to show how differently some of the plants reacted. All are currently being LST'd as well. :)

Hey -- I tried to get to your gallery by going to your profile then clicking Photo Album. It took me to a page with a 404 error saying the page I'm looking for is unavailable. Is there something or some method I'm missing?

(sigh) No, rollitup is doing a bunch of stuff to the site and user interface, features, and so on. FORTUNATELY, for some reason I decided to make myself a bookmark to it. Since he's doing a bunch of work on the site today, though, I'm going to wait to put up the pictures I just took. I do indeed have something along the lines of "before and after" pix, and once I get some of the ones I took today up you'll be able to see.

In any event, here's the link to my gallery: Error
LMFAO! Ok, it SAYS error in that link, but for me at least, it leads to my gallery. I switched computers just to be sure, of course.. I am logged in as myself, too. Hmm.. lemme know, though I'm sure it'll be fixed in a jiffy.

Unless my imagination is so good that I built you a really nice deck
 That would be pretty good, imagination-wise. Very cool, now, we just have to wait for all our gallery links to come back. :) I wonder if these bars are going to replace the reputation boxes. I never did figure out why some are red and some are (or were) gray.

Yes, as a matter of fact... ok, shed for the generator; another storage shed.
8) I got to ride an 1100cc ACE (Honda Shadow) this weekend and.. well, I'm going to need another shed for another bike (probably not the ACE, I now must try an 1100 Aero, and a VTX1300 cuz if I can get Dave's off the stand, I can get THOSE off their stands. And ride 'em. Fast). I told him it probably wasn't such a good idea to have me test ride that bike.
Then.. we want to wrap the decking around the house and make levels, too, because there's room to add lower levels on the west and south sides of the house, plus those are the most private.

Um.. I also want ceiling fans out here on the back deck, the setting sun can make it pretty hot here, and that might reduce our overall cooling costs.
That's just to start. :D

uhhm, back to this plane of existence known to some as "reality",... let me/us know when you post your newest pics, Seamaiden. I checked your gallery but didn't find clear pics of your FIM work. Did I not look hard enuf?

btw, thanks for going out and taking pics today.

I think rollitup is still working on the site, I'll wait until things seem to clear up so it doesn't complicate his work. I just got some more uploaded onto the laptop so they'll be ready when the site is.
