Americans with diabetes... Type 2 which can be avoided by eating healthy and working out. If you choose to be a fat slob that eats mcdonalds and slams mountain dew and get diabetes than you deserve it. You are the choices you make in life.

Prime example of why universal health care is stupid. Why should I have to pay for the bad choices of others?

My labs including cholesterol, blood sugar, and lipids are great. Why? Because of my choices.
Kgp..
As much as I offer sympathies to those paying for the healthcare or well being of others..there are benefits...

Living in Canada myself..I believe that all people should have access to a certain standard of health benefit...and am willing to pay, so that others enjoy those same benefits...

At a bare minimum, think if it this way..(I apologize for the harsh delivery..)Assume you live in a city with those who have a lot of money and those that have little...crime will thrive..As those, who have nothing to lose will simply steal to gain the goods they seek..or pawn those goods to pay for their necessities...
It happens all over the world whether you like it or not..You make an effort to enrich the community for the benefit of all...or you get it in the ass..and the down and out will take what they need to survive.
People need to feel apart of a community..that they can not only contribute to but benefit from...
As for Trump..he's a self centered individual...Anyone can lower interest rates to stimulate growth...At what point do you say enough is enough...national debt? Threatening corporate America with demands of made in America seems a heck of a lot more like do as a do as I say...not as I do...Just look at Ivanka and her over seas textile production...
The Trump family is just setting themselves up to pad their pockets further down the road...the benefit you receive are merely residual.

How long do you have to wait for surgery in Canada?
Canadians who need medically necessary surgeries waited longer than ever for treatment — with average wait times hitting 20 weeks, a new Fraser Institute report concludes. Before the 20-week record in 2016, wait times were longest in 2011 at 19 weeks, according to the organization. CBS Nov 23, 2016

How many foreigners come to the US for healthcare?
About 0.5% of all air travelers entering the United States annually—between 100,000 and 200,000 people—list health treatment as a reason for visiting (this data excludes travelers from Canada and Mexico, the majority of whom travel to the United States overland).

my question here is why are the down and out, down and out?...
centuries of the privileged few manipulating society to suit their needs? decades of unfair treatment in the workplace? more decades of politicians allowing themselves to be bought by the highest bidder?
maybe some of those "thieves" are willing to work, if they were offered the opportunity?

And, how many Americans go to Canada for medical care?
does it really matter?
maybe a Canadian citizen has to wait for an operation, but they know they'll get it, and it won't be the end of their financial life...
i've had a hernia for half my life, it's been fixed 5 times, by incompetent American surgeons, at nice clean hospitals...and it keeps coming back, because the fucking assholes don't know their jobs. i recently lost my insurance though the exchange, thank you for that trump, you cocksucking motherfucker....
to get it fixed right now would cost more than i've made in the last 5 years...and i was thinking about going to Canada to get it done, because the surgeons in America are fucking incompetent fucking asses
an independant surgeon looked at my files from the last operation, told me the surgeon picked a new type of mesh that was totally inappropriate for my condition, most likely because it was new and he wanted to try it out, even though it is meant for short term injuries that will heal quickly...so 2 months after he "fixed " it, it blew the fuck out again....that's American medicine for you...you get to be a guinea pig for fucking assholes who don't care if you survive the procedure or not, as long as they get to see how their new toy works....
and TRY to get a lawyer to sue them...good motherfucking luck, they won't touch a case that isn't so blatant they can't lose...

Don't care, it's irrelevant to me and I'm not your google bitch.

Our system has its flaws, but it's still better than the US system and if you didn't piss your tax dollars away on being the world's police force, you could afford much better than what we have.

You choose not to, just in case someone gets something for "free". Monumental stupidity if you ask me.

Sorry to hear the shit you've gone through with your hernia...fucking sucks! That said, I don't blame doctors and surgeons but rather "The System"..I genuinely believe Dr's try in every way possible to help their patients, but the human body, as dynamic as it is, can be difficult to interpret and heal..A friend of mine had a Kevlar patch sewn in for a hernia a number if years ago and was still having problems....I'm guessing doctors in Canada would likely have had the same result with surgery...
In Canada, we certainly pay through the nose when it comes to tax...but..the benefits of a subsidized education and health system those taxes pay for are huge! If you have a child here in Canada medical cost to the family is pretty much free..in the US, I'm hearing $30k+ (I don't know)...
I think for a system to fundamentally change..ie US health..the mindset has to change...more along the lines of being a community, and a sense that all people deserve that as a basic human right...In doing so, the individual and community become closer and both benefit..albeit, some paying more than others..
An example of this sense of community in Canada that I can think of is Blood Donations...I go in once or twice a year to give blood for free....the only benefit I receive is a few cookies, some soup and the food feeling that I have helped someone else...If that sense of "community" is nurtured..people are more willing to contribute on all levels...
Canada is far from perfect..but there are a few things I am particularly proud of that we have.

Some, maybe.
But most that's left homeless now are mentally ill, or drug addicted (which are medical conditions). The economy and jobs market are so hot that all of the willing and most of the able are working.
The thieves that are out there won't work an honest job; thievery is their chosen profession.
I really believe that we need to do more for our mentally ill and drug addicted citizens. It really is getting critical now.
They need treatment.
And, that actually ties in with what Mr T said above.

So a mother of three who is constantly getting called out of work may not be able to maintain the kind of resume to get a well paying job without having to sacrifice it for her children.

What do you do for them?

Also parent with special needs children, what about them?

Can't do much for her. She has chosen her life path. She has kids, I don't wanna raise them. I've already raised mine.
What we can do is teach our children, in school if we have to, to keep their legs together so they not spitting out their first child at 15. We need to teach them that they can not count on an easy life if they do that. Or get em on birth control. We need to educate them of the consequences of their actions, and protect them from their own stupidity.
