Bong cleaning

First I'd like to know if cleaning my bong is necessary and is it healthier?

secondly, if the first two answers are yes then I need to know what procedures I can choose from to clean my bong.

should be easy, my bong is two parts and the smoke goes from the bottom to the top with these tubes, I can take the bottom half off.

Tea Tree or Eucalyptus Oil are both strong antiseptic cleaners that cut through pipe resin like thinners. Tea Tree oil has the added bonus of being a fungicide/bactericide. These oils will not react with any rubber seals, nor will they hurt glass. These oils are primarily used as wound antiseptics and inhalants for strong cold relief etc, so are quite safe. Don't drink it though.

Use about a capful of neat oil and swirl it around inside the pipe. You'll see how well it works and adjust your cleaning method to suit.
The most important thing you have to do after cleaning with these oils is to rinse thoroughly in warm, soapy water, then rinse again in warm clean water.

If you don't, you'll get a Tea Tree/ eucalyptus oil aftertaste.
Hope this helps.bongsmiliebongsmiliebongsmilie:eyesmoke:

I've been using the headshops cleaner, I like this Tea Tree Oil idea, I know my grandma gets it real cheap down in AZ. But as for up north here I am unsure of cost.

I have also seen rubbing alcohol and epsom salt do alright work, but it just doesn't eath through resin like I wish it would.

I have a lot of cleaning to do, I have some retired water pipes dues to cloggage and fungi, I hope the tea tree oil blasts them clean and makes them look like new!!

Keeping your bong clean is a good idea. It keeps your hits from tasting like ass. I hate it when I have some bomb bud, and someone wants me to pack it in a piece that looks like it hasn't been cleaned since they got it. I want to taste MY shit, not everything you've smoked since you got the damn thing.

As for cleaners....I usually use 420 cleaner. I'm interested in this Tea Oil thing though...hmmmm

It works really well el shaggy and Ms Wikid. I agree with you Ms Wikid. There is nothing worse than having to smoke out of a bong that looks like they've used Black syrup instead of water in the thing. I always clean our billy if we have friends visiting...icky yuck...dirty bong...bongsmilie :spew:
Tea Tree Oil gives the added bonus that it will kill the fungus and other nasties in your pipes etc. It also has a myriad other uses (see links below).

In Australia we pay around AUD6 (about USD5 I s'pose) for a 25ml bottle of 100% pure Ti Tree (proper spelling) Oil. Don't buy the 15% by volume stuff as it isn't strong enough and you'll just waste it. The 15% is suspended in hydrocarbon type volatile oils that evaporate off.

With the pure stuff, a little goes a long way. Our pipe is about 6 inches long (15cm) and is what they call the 'Australian style', meaning its around a half inch diameter (1 to 1.2 cm). The way I clean it is to block one end, pour in about 2ml or so of oil and then put my finger over the unblocked end and shake it for about 30 seconds to a minute. All the oils and crud break down and dissolve, then you flush it really well with warm water and detergent. A few drops on a cotton wool ball is good for wiping out your cone pieces and such, but you'll need to wash them well afterwards too.

It's also known as melaleuca oil, based on the Ti Tree's name melaleuca alternifolia. There are a huge variety of melaleucas (including the ones that have taken over the Florida Everglades), but alternifolia is the best medicinal one and is the tree used to make Tea Tree Oil.

You can get some good info on Tea Tree Oil from the following website/s:

yes, i have never used tea tree, but sounds good enough for me to try next time, epsom salt+70% ispyrol (rubbing) alcohol has never failed me, but be sure to clean with hot water , and not to switch to cold water too fast, because of it being glass...

lol, I never said it was a weed pipe. I didn't think I'd need to mention it, because I wasn't suggesting this for a weed pipe. I just said I put a piece in a microwave and he asked why, so I answered.

Calm the fuck down. :blsmoke:

I am going to speak in small words, so you can better understand them.

This was not a method used on a BONG. This was not a method used on a piece that smoked weed PERIOD.

I said that I put it in the microwave for 2 minutes and it came out spotless. That's what happened. I didn't go on to explain everything I did because I wasn't giving instructions, I was just telling a fucking story.

So back the fuck off already. Did I come on this thread saying "You can clean your bong with bleach in a microwave"

No you dumb fuck, only YOU seem to have taken it that way. So why don't you realize that you were wrong, and just shut the fuck up about it?

get 99% alcohol and epsom salt. I clean my bongs daily, ash catchers help out a bunch to. Only illadelph or roor ashcatcher's are worth buying, dont buy them shitty pos kinds. A straw from jack in the box works great for scraping the downstem innately, most of the resin will get stuck inside the straw. Use a paper clip and scrape it clean, sometimes alcohol is required, but if your consistently cleaning you bong daily, its super easy to make that baby look brand new in 5 minutes or less depending if you want the bowl spotless aswell.. No boiling water or that expensive bong cleaning shit. 99% is the best possible stuff to use i think. Denatured alcohol works very good to but leaves even more of a residue smell.
