Blue's first grow: Northern Lights 400W MH/HPS

Noticing a slight yellowing of some fan leaf tips. Cutting back on nutrients (I've added nutrients every time I've topped off the tank...I'm dropping my ppm to about 800 before adding more nutrients) The last two tank re-fills have been straight water for this reason. The last top off of pure water brought me to 1100ppm and the one I did today brought me to 1000pm.

Besides this and some minor light burn that I fixed by rotating the girls, everything looks great....

I am Sub'D, I am a big Northern Lights fan. I currently have Northern Skunk(Veg), Northern Flame(Veg) growing right now plus a Jack Herer so I am a big fan of the NL. I want to get a NL by Nirvana. I am staying to watch you finish. Good job and even better when you get to smoke that NL.

Peace

As you can see by these pictures, I've got some odd things happening. I'm not worried at all though- I have a decisive plan to fix it.
First of all, discoloration is not happening on the budsite leaves...only the leaves without bud.
One of the plants had dark, dark green leaves and is now transitioning to normal colored green leaves (I moved it's placement in the tent...it's the "runt" of the litter and should have been under the bulb more directly). This is pretty cool to watch.
There is some browning of the tips, yellowing as well, and curling upwards, which suggests either heat burn or nute burn. I've been having minor heat burns on another plant (before I rotated it) so I have a plan in mind- add a fan clipped onto the bottom of the ballast blowing air across the direct area beneath the ballast. An added fan on the ballast will definitely help this minor problem.
As a poster in my help thread brought to my attention, I haven't flushed my plants at all, since seedling. Didn't really occur to me that they might need this. So tonight and probably again tomorrow, I'm flushing by pouring straight water into the plants respective pots. Tomorrow I'll do water pH'ed to 5.5. Hopefully this improves the health of my random foliage.
The only other thing I envision this being is a pH problem. I've let my res. slide anywhere from 5.5-6.5pH, and I'm going to be more strict now...I want it at about 5.5-5.8 to start, we'll see how that goes.

Awesome! Jack Herer is by far my all-time favorite sativa. I LOVE it.
I'd +rep you for stopping by and subbing (thanks!), but I already did for your valuable advice in my n00b-pussy-help thread. See you around!

I'll have pics up soon!

I was on vacation for a week in Orlando, thus my absence on here...back to hating the cold weather and snow, though.

My girls really got fat while I was gone....can't wait to take some pics and show everyone!

Sorry no bud porn this time...camera is in-op right now.

Getting so close to the finish now! Still waiting on hairs to turn amber...but I'm estimating harvest should be within a week. I'll be giving them 24-36hrs of darkness before harvest.
The next post I make will have my harvest results in it!

KOB is there a reason why you will be giving them 24-36 hours of darkness prior to harvesting?

I have heard that this tricks the plants into thinking winter is coming..thus the plant creates resin at a highly increased rate. I've done some research and it's probably just an old wives tale...but I want to give it a try, some people swear by it. So I think a 24hr. dark period before harvest would be fine...plus, at night with no photosynthesis, the nutrients return down to the roots.

Thanks for answering, please keep me posted on if it works or not. I like learning new things about growing so when I dont know I ask.

I'll be harvesting on Day 65 of flowering, after 24 hours of darkness. (Removing light after it shuts off on 12/12 cycle....stays dark for normal dark period + addtl. 12 hours)

Can you take before and after pics of darkness to see if there is any difference in resin production please. Thanks bro and congrats on harvesting!

So on Day 105, I harvested. I left them in the dark for 24 hours, with no hydro waterings, to let it dry out a bit, and to let all the excess elements return to the roots. I cut them down gradually, leaving the remaining plants in the dark while I worked on one branch at a time. I manicured them almost completely- I don't really think they'll need anything more. Now they're hanging up to dry! They've been hanging for about 2 days. I've got mason jars ready for them once they're dry enough to start curing.
With the trimmings, I've already made a batch of ISO hash. The results were amazing....very bubbly hash, and sticky like you wouldn't believe (freshness of the clippings!), but wow, does this stuff produce a great high. I can't wait for the finished product, I have yet obviously to smoke any of the actual bud.
All in all, I'm really happy with how harvest went. It took what seemed like forever to get all 4 plants taken care of, but I'm impressed with the yield. Waiting to put in jars before weighing.
