Blue or True?

Hi guys!

Ok, so it's come down to this:

DJ's Blueberry

or

True Blueberry

Has anyone had any side by side experience? The original has always been my favorite hands down, but supposedly the True Blue is supposed to have improved genetics. Then again, it could just be marketing, but I'd like to know nonetheless.

Input?

If you like more sativa... I'd go with true blue, but either way DJ Shorts is the bomb

We grow his original Blueberry and are always happy with it. Haven't tried the True blue, but I imagine for a first timer it's worth a shot.

I'm sticking with the old "If it ain't broke, don't fix it" theme.

If your into the "flavors", Subcool seeds seem to be the hot ticket. We've got their beans ready to grow. VERY curious to see how they work out.

Thanks Greencross, that actually helps me quite a bit. I'm more of a middle of the road guy who swerves occasionally towards indica.

Invaluable. I'm glad to hear someone else loves this strain. It has always been my favorite. Do you mind telling me the details? Indoors or out, avg yield and growing method? I only have x amount of space so I want this glove to fit perfectly.

RIU really rocks.

No problem. I'll give what details i can off the top of my head since the grow "book" with notes and such, isn't with me at the moment.

Grown via Aeroponics. Clones grown in Aerocloner. Indoors, organic nutes. CO2 is used during Veg. and Flower. Start with clones, we send them to 12/12 flower at about 10" in height. Flowered for 8-9 weeks. Doesn't like heavy nutes at all. Grown under a 600w HPS in flower per 14 plants.

Humidity can create a problem and give mold. Humidity is kept at 50% for us. A good breeze is cheap insurance too. We've never had pest problems, but our area is cleaner than a hospital. Some people have had spider mite problems.

Our pheno doesn't get bushy, but i imagine if you vegged for 6 weeks, trimmed and trained it, you could get a lil bush. Honestly, I think our pheno would make a nice "Cash Crop".

We flush them the last 2 weeks. If you don't, I find the bud leaves not such a great taste in your mouth when smoked.

A friend of mine grows this in soil and uses molases and flushes at the end and it tastes wonderful as well.

Lowering the "nightime" air temperatures during the last 2-3 weeks seems to help the coloring. Nice colors seem to start really getting good 2-3 weeks into flower. Great "bag appeal" with it's bluish. purple. Burple coloring. Tastes great, like a fruit bowl or something.

Great all day smoke. Doesn't couchlock for me (does for some people), and surely not "speedy" at all. Nice and mellow. I know a guy who smokes this pretty much 100% of the time he smokes.

Yield for us is 2.5-3oz per plant on average.

I like to cure this bud for 3-4 weeks or more before i smoke it. This brings out a better taste.

Hmm, I'm sorry for the craptastic style of post i just wrote, but my kids are kicking my ass, and i tried to write this post about 4 times now, getting interupted every 5 minutes. LOL....hopefully it all makes sense. If not, ask away and I'll reply when I'm kid free and maybe not stoned too. LOL

Thank you for the advice, it's good to know someone else really appreciates this particular strain. So, how long does it take you to reach 10"? Month? The reason I ask is because I want to do a mini SOG set up with either drip system or ebb and flow. I've done the soil thing and now I want to do something a bit more beneficial as far as g/watt goes. I have Trainwreck and an unknown lemon sativa from an old, old friend. He knows his stuff.

Sadly, he doesn't have any kind of hydro setup so I'm trying to garnish more info from RIU on the specifics of this strain in a non-soil environment. How much space does all this take up? I'm looking at about 8 x 9 x 6

Thanks for the information man, this is vastly helpful.

Always glad to pass along the info. Honestly, i think it is my responsibility to pass it along to fellow growers. 10" from a clone can pretty easily be reached within 4 weeks of Veg. in our Aero setup.

Our Aero Setup is pretty similar to "Stinkbud's" Aero setup. He's got that nice long thread "Grow a 1lb every 3 weeks" thread. Really a GREAT read if you have the time. Go to page 75 for the "Easy to read/understand/condensed version".

Trainwreck is a really nice strain as well. We grow it in the garden too, but only 2 plants currently. I didn't pick to put it in there, but I'm glad someone did. It's a nice change of pace from my usual stash.

I still think ANY strain can grow via Hydro either by Aero, DWC, etc etc. If you set it up right, grow it right then it'll smoke right. Heavy sativa dominant strains like to grow taller though, so you have to take that into consideration.

8' wide X 9' Long x 6' High = 8' X 8' x 4.5' of "usable space" in my eyes. You lose 1' of length due to a walk way between plants, and you lose 1.5' of height due to the spacing required between the HPS light and the plants.

Depending on how high your setup is off the floor, (lets assume 1.5' for easy math) you have 3' of "growable" room. You can pack in some REAL nice Blueberry plants in 36". Hell, you can pack alot of pretty much any Indica dominant plants in that space.

Assuming your "table" is 4'x4', you can have (4) of these tables in that space. Should be pretty easy to get 12-15 ish plants going on a rotation.

When my Co-op brothers and sisters got together to design our newest grow room, we tackled it with a list of the requirements, a wish list, and a BIG ass dry erase board. A few hours later, and a few bowls we had black, white, blue, green, red and "I dunno what color that is!" prints. Construction began soon after.

I could think of a solid 1/2 dozen plants I'd like to grow in a rotation with DJ Shorts Blueberry that all have similar traits. That way i could keep the temperature of the room at a slightly lower level to bring some colors out; keep the nutes the same for all the strains, etc etc.

Assuming even a mild Hydro setup, with the room size you have, you could EASILY pull a solid 1lb every 3-4 weeks. I dunno about you, but i cant smoke a 1lb every 3-4 weeks, at least not by myself. Share the wealth maybe?

As to what growing setup to choose, it's really up to you. Aero, DWC, Ebb-n-Flo, Coliseum, Omega, Bubbleponics, etc etc. They all have their pluses and minuses.

In all honesty, our Aero setup takes some thought to keep all the ducks in a row. Timers galore, CO2, everything is written down, labeled, tracked, inspected, cleaned beyond sterile, etc etc. It's likely overkill Anal, but almost no problems ever.

Everyone involved has some serious passion for MJ though, and it all works out fine.

A lil Blueberry, next to some Deep Purple and/or Querkle, some Blue Moonshine, some Lavender, some Blue Cheese, and maybe some Endless Sky in there too sounds like a slice of heaven to me. All great smokes, ultra pretty and taste great from what i've experienced and/or heard/seen.

Glad to help. Fire away anymore questions you may have. I'm not even close to an expert, but I've figured out how to make a weed grow fairly decently.

Cool , cool. I did a bit more research on that myself.

All this information has been very useful, oj, thanks for the advice and all the info. I have decided to get both of these, and once I do, you can be sure I'll be asking for some more specifics.

I appreciate it.
