All of my cherry tomatoes look like this. They were not lying on the ground. I have my MJ plants in the same raised flower bed. Could they have it too?? The lil white hairs are turning brown and the ends of the new leaves or brown and shriveled. IMG00044-20100726-1050.jpg

mine are doing the same thing, tomatoes that is,I did a little research and found that it could be from the plant getting to dry,I dont know why it causes it but thats what I read,my plants are in pots and with above normal temps for the past few weeks mine did dry out a few times. good luck

I've read that it might be a magnesium thing.
It can be. If that is the case, occurrence of BER in the first fruit tells you its about a month late with the Epsom Salts. :? {its in the pharmacy with the foot soaking stuff} It says how much to apply to tomato seedlings on the box. Next year, you might remember to put a tbsp or so in the hole when you plant seedling. You can, and should make corrections now... but its not as fast acting as ammonia nitrogen.

As soon as I noticed it, I put a cup of epsom salt in my batch of compost tea, then sprayed that on the soil all around the pepers and tomatos.

ANOTHER prime culprit is inconsistent watering. Bone Dry, too wet, bone dry.. is a good way to get it.

ALSO Getting the foilage wet, say if your watering regimin consists of blasting the garden with a rainbird sprinkle. Apparently, drops of water get in the blossom and turn into a rotten spot. Thats why Drip Irrigation is advocated for peppers and tomato's.

I am rigged up with drip, and still get it on some of the first fruits, and occasionally a few throughout the season. Next pring I will just broadcast a whole box of epsom salt everywhere, and give it a chance to work into the soil.

Those are just preflowers they die, they may not be ready to bud as in day length, but they are mature enough to do so if they are showing preflowers. They will start to really bud in a few weeks.

That same shit is happening to my purple cherokee mater, was the vine black on the outside still green on the inside? The bud is fine.

 I found the culprit.... in the area this was happening, the drip emitters were clogged. Fixed.

Apparently some knucklehead ran compost tea through the drip lines with one of those feckless hoze-on siphon thingies. I fixed that problem too.

Plus I recently sprayed an epsom salt solution, so i should be fine from here on out.
