:peace:i am growing in a coco coir mix ,and have problems with knats ,i have heard if you put a layer of sand on top of the mix ,it will prevent the larvae from hatching and eating my roots ,any one with any previous problems with the little buggers ,as i dont like to spray chemicals on my plants.
any help would be great ,as i love coco ,but not the knats.
thanks blackout

I had the same problem, so I hung sticky fly paper over the sides of my 5g pots and they all get stuck on them. I had hundreds at first, now i change them out every couple of weeks with hardly any on them.

thanks man ,i just love this coco coir an aussie brand call nutrifield ,but those knats seem to love any coco coir, it is not a big problem but i have seen a few ,so i know the little fuckers will have larvae underneath.also it is winter here so if they can get in my growroom they love the heat ,etc, still i am sure they will survive as i let the top dry out ,which seems to put them off ,and a big fan seems to help.

yeah throw a layer of perlite or hydroton or something like that on top and maybe a couple of the sticky stips right next to the pots

good idea ,i think i will do both the hydroton ,and the sticky traps ,it is just so wet ,and cold in the hills any little bug likes to get in my room ,i dont get a lot in there but one to many for my liking.
