i am going to use kellogs organic soil, peat moss, perlite and worm castings in 3 gallon pots. what should the mix ratio be?

i will use alaskan fish fert 5-1-1 for veg. not sure what fert for flower yet but should have plenty of time to figure that out.

i bought seeds from sea of seeds. i have some germinationg now. starting with "ams" and "church". im going to grow them in areca palm trees in my yard. already have everything layed out. trees are cleared in the middle and the canopy is opened up to allow great sunelight penetration. i will start another thread/journal once the seeds pop.

the alaska fish fert attracts animals, so you may need to put some kind of protection for your plant or use another fert.

Not sure about squirrels. I thought they just like to bury nuts. Field mice will nibble on seedlings. I'm guessing rats will do the same. They won't mess with anything that's a few weeks old though.

I haven't tried starting seeds using kellogg patio soil. My only concern is the bat guano in it. Bat qunao tends to run hot, but I doubt Kellogg puts a lot in it considering how expensive quano is and how cheap Kelloggs patio plus is.

To date I've only used Kellogg Patio Plus as a general potting mix for my established plants (three weeks or more). For seeds I prefer to play it safe and use Miracle-Gro Seed Starting Mix + Perlite + Worm Castings. Same ratio I mentioned earlier. I've also used FoxFarm Light Warrior in place of the MG Seed Starting Mix, but I it didn't perform any better and it was three times the price.

ok...
so home depot didnt have kellogs patio plus in-store so i will have to find another top soil to use. however i bought some mg seeding soil, peat moss, perlite and alaskan fish fert today so i can get these babies in the dirt this afternoon. i dont think i should add the fish fert yet, correct?
how long should i keep them in the seeding soil mix (will amend with perlite and peat moss) before moving to the final pots? once in the pots when should i start with the fish fert?
once i get these things going i will start another "trees in a tree" thread/journal.

You won't need to feed for at least three weeks. As for container size... while three gallons isn't going to get massive yields, it will do the job. Expect a 3-4 ft plant. To some people that's perfect. If you want bigger yield, increasing the pot size will do it.

No one ever told me about Kellogg. I just went to the store, flipped over every bag of soil they had, and read the ingredients. I tend to favor things with worm castings, kelp, mushrooms, and guano added in. Also if you see any broken bags, pick up a hand full of the soil to see how light it is. If you have to you can just buy Miracle-Gro Organic potting soil. Its nothing to write home about and honestly your going to be feeding your plants weekly anyway, so anything that might be missing will be added in during regular feedings.

In answer to your first question, Black Gold castings also have 10% peat moss. Don't know why.
