Hey guys,

Well today I put a few plants outside. After planting one of the babies I went to grab some grass to cover up the hole around the plants..

One of the piles I picked up I had noticed a nest of black ants.. o.0

Is this an issue? Will they kill my plants??

+ rep for good advice..

I put out Ant bait and its been weeks and the problem seemed like getting worse so i Just bought some Neem 2. Killed em on the spot. Instruction says to spray for 7 days. Its organic so its all good.

no, they eat leaves too. like jus said, neem is great. you should just kill them tho. not particularly nice, but they probably will cause problems.

I live in so cal and I planted 2 plants and they are infested with black ants. I got scared but they are 4 feet tall now and the ants dont seem to be bothering them. Good luck

I have noticed black ants nesting near my plants, and even sitting on them (with no holes or aphids present)
I also see them on all my flower buds except for marigolds. I would try sprinkling some cinnamon around your plant, they hate it, and it's never bothered mine. I don't know if it messes with the Ph or not...

Humm that sounds like an excellent idea man!!

I went to the large garden center that we hav here and was told that neem was banned in like Canada or he said in my area....

Gonna try the cinnamon trick and see what happens :) +rep

of course bifenthrin or talstar are even better, they kill any bug they touch, and if youre just putting it on the ground around the plant its fine,... both can be bought on ebay

Ants will eat the plants? I have a whole bunch of small bright orange ants and a bigger like reddish/black ant and they leave my sproutings alone. I hope they continue to do so.

Most ants are leaf eaters, along with about anything else. it sounds like you have carpenter ants, which shouldnt bother your plant too much past the seedling stage. there's other black ants (mostly european) that will actually farm aphids, which is no good for our ganja.

instant grits will usually get rid of an ant problem. they take the grains back to the queen, which are eaten and then expand within the ant killing it.
