Birds ate all my plants

Hello everyone. I had a nice little garden of female plants. I think that I got lucky because I used bagseed and all of them came out female...imagine that. Everything was fine until I came back to my garden to find everything eaten.... I saw a post a while ago about birds eating someone's crop and then it happened to me. I was wondering what types of birds do this and how can I prevent it.

What makes you think it was birds??? I dont know many bird species that eat plant foliage. More likely deer or some other kind of omnivore. Unless you found a lot of bird shit or somethin i would suspect something else. Ive seen dogs nibble on weed plants too but never wipe out a crop.

That was my post.

Goddamn birds piss you off right?

I put up old CDS and the little plastic windmills and
that worked for a while until they got used to it.

Now I am trying to get my gramma to let me use her
scarecrow.

Some suggested alkaseltzer to kill them, well that sounded
good to me until I went really broke. lol.

But the owl decoy will most definitely work.

And someone told me the birds are a type of sparrow.
Which I believe, looked up the pictures.
They take all your stuff out of your garden and
"make nests" with them.

Fuck birds. :fire:

Trust 'em, its the birds. What confirmed that it was birds for me was seeing
them, and then seeing bird shit on my corn.

i remember you purplekitty, did you get your bird problem taken care of?
actually no. They picked off the rest of my jalapeno pepper
plants.

and my damn dog just annihilated 2 of my zucchini
plants. Left the gate open the nite before right
after harvesting some zucchini. that fuckin bitch.

anywho...my gramma has a scarecrow I am going to put
in there. that should fix things.

I don't know why but this is hilarious to me. I'm so sorry for you birdcity, I mean flicity lol kidding that totally sucks. But that is true that sparrows do that. I have five sparrow nests that I can see from windows up close around my house (one inside my porchlight!) and I've seen them take my dying morning glory's and use them for thier nests. I don't care about that but if I had pot plants out there I'd proly shoot those fuckers, too...if I had a gun. Good luck

where in the world do I get a buckshot?

and how much is it? then again, it was 106 today, don't think
I will be out there waiting for their asses. lol.

I guess if you have all that time to sit and watch your grow spot, buckshot is a good solution.
hehe. i think he means shoot a few, leave the corpses in the garden,
and the other will get the clue.

Thank you for all your responses...I know that it was birds because I took all the plants in the ground and re-planted them in pots and set them up high.....they were all growing voraciously then I came back and they were anniylated (think I spelled that wrong lol). I can't use a gun because it is in the city...hint the name lol. At first I thought that it was ground hogs or rabbits, but it was'nt. Maybe some rabbits ate my veggies, but not the plants sitting high.

Why dont you build a house for your plants? Use 1x1 or 2x1 wood boards or even PVC pipe and chicken wire (If you can afford it). If not then IDK what else to suggest... Maybe you can buy a grip of yarn, place your poles for the house, and wrap the whole thing. Either they will get discouraged or get tangled (you can cook the little bastard if it gets tangled)... You can also on a mission and ask local farmers if they have some materials left over and make up some excuse that you are broke and want to surprize your grandma with her own little garden setup. Good luck.

the owl decoy will work for a while, or alka-seltzer like fried@420 said. coat them with a little ketchup first. they won't bother you no more!

The chicken wire cage is a great idea and cheap. Alka-Seltzer definitely doesn't make them explode. I always thought that, too. It does kill them, though...slowly and painfully. If you can't use a gun, making them violently ill would actually work better. They would develop an automatic aversion to your yard and stop coming there altogether, and eventually all the birds in the area would fear whatever you put the poison in (because only the healthy ones who avoided your yard would mate, takes a long time). It's the best way to control rats. Ever been back to a resturaunt that made you sick? I dunno how long you're gonna be at that house or what not but you might try looking into early animal experiments by famous psychologists. Pavlovian Conditioning would be a good place to start. But a chicken wire cage is the best idea. I don't know why nobody thought of that before.

are you serious that sucks man get you a airsoft rifle with a laserscope and sum lead pellets
Yeah man thats what I was thinkin, a 12 gauge is over kill, and it will get your ass landed in jail, a pellet gun is quiet and their strong enough to take down any small bird.
