Hello, this will be a lengthy message but I want to give you the full rundown so that someone can help as best as they can. After many YouTube vids, and looking on various sites such as this, I cannot get this cloning thing down yet, but when i actually flower a plant everything is fine. Also I just recently got laid off but I believe I have good equipment and supplies but my clones are rotting at the base and I get hard woody stems (that were soft at 1st.) Anyway here's my setup. I have a large cloning tray with 72 spaces. For discretion in my room it is covered with a large non see-thru plastic bin (no air holes but air does seep from the bottom as it is not airtight) with 2 waterproof LED grow light strips that are on 18hrs and off 6hrs. I have a heating mat for the large tray, which i've experimented: ON 24hrs, OFF altogether, and ive tried heat on for 2hrs then off 2hrs throughout the entire day with a timer (probably should ditch the heat mat until winter altogether). I use brand new blades EVERY time since i have a bunch, and cut the at a 45 deg. angle. I immed. dip in clonex gel (to prevent the air bubble right?) and i double dip in a rooting powder (only because I read that some strains work better with gel and some better in powder). I dont have rockwool but i use plugs. The plugs are soaked in a clonex solution but not too wet. Just yesterday i found my previously lost liquid ph testing kit and my tap water is waaay high in ph so i bring it down to 5-6 with vinegar. Also Ive experimented (b-4 I noticed the high ph levels) with putting very little water in the tray vs a lot of water. Neither worked but I think too much water is a bad idea. Also i use an air-stone from my fishtank to oxygenate the water ever since ive been testing the "too much water" technique (about 2 1/2 - 3 inches of water). I lightly mist 2ce a day (previously with the high ph water but i have my eye on that now). And the strains Ive been using (if it even matters) are dr kripling incredible bulk, white widow, white russian, barneys LSD and Royal Queen Critical. All have failed miserably and im at my wits end. The mothers are hanging in there and getting bushier because of the multiple cutting, which is fine but i cant flower until I get my cloning game right. Also I'm trying to grow short bushy plants, but maybe my clones are too small. I cut my clones slightly longer or equal to the 2 inch plug If you need more info please let me know. Ez-cloner, best thing you'll ever buy.
Definitely agree with too much water Sunshine, working on that right now.
And i have heard of EZ cloner more than a few times schroederific, so it must be good. No money to purchase right now and it's a little pricey but I'm really interested in getting it because my current method is obviously not productive.
