Big pots or small pots?

Which do you prefer and why? right now my grow room is 36" long and 22.5" wide my 3 gallon pots are 10 inches wide, and i'm doing 3 of them. Would it be better to do a single plant in a rubbermaide bin? As I have seen a grow done this way that yielded over a pound under a 400whps. or would it be better to do like 30 plants in small dixie cups and flower them as soon as the clones root? or still, would it be better to do something in between the two extremes? The problem with bigger pots is you wont be able to fit in as many plants, however, this is not always beneficial as they can crowd each other and block each others light

yeah, was there an indication that I had not? I'm asking the dude to support his answer, any shred of evidence to support what the claim?

I asked the same thing before and the general consensus was 1 big pot is easier to manage . Multiple little pots if you want to be able to grow multiple strains or run a perpetual grow.

Next grow I am getting the biggest pot I can fit in my space and will be focusing on improving my LST technique.

Your bud production is pretty much going to be determined by how much light you can put out and how much foliage and then bud you can grow. One guy can do 1 or 2 plants, and get the same yield as the next guy doing a dozen.

Depends on a ton of stuff including strains, veg time, and if/how you train your plants. I personally like fewer plants inside to take care of. 3 feet by 2 feet like you described I would do 2 or 3 but that's just me.

Good luck

I'm running the same size closet 2' X 3' with a 400w HID. Last grow I ran four 3-gal containers. This grow I have four 5-gal geo pots and one 3-gal. I like the individual containers because I can rotate them 360 degrees and move them around the room. This keeps my nodes tight and symmetrical. Easy to feed and trim because they are light enough to move around.

The issue I have with one big plant in the same space is, what happens if the plant dies? Zero harvest right? Wasted four months. I'm just not that good of a gardener to place all my eggs in one basket.

Well i knew i would be veggin for a while trying a few new things, plus i heard the whole "bigger pots bigger roots = bigger yields" thing so i thought id give it a go with a tote & my 400w in my 1 1/2' x 2' area.....20130515_084856.jpgView attachment 2661781.....Royal Flush.....also have a Black Russian in a 5gal bucket for the same reason....just retied her this morning to get her spread a bit wider for more lighting in the middle & in between buds....20130518_081357.jpg20130518_081348.jpg

I really need to improve my LST. There is no way I could fit the same number of plants, and I have branches going every which way.

You missed the Why and how part of my question. I hate dealing with fools. If you cannot support your answer like I had asked then it is useless, as everyone has there own opinion on things. I'm asking it to be supported by results and or evidence. Jesus man

Personally, when i started growing I had six plants in 7.5lt (sorry i know little of gallons) pots with a 30cm OD. Now however I grow two plants in 20lt buckets.
My reason for this is that as I became better at growing, I realised the likelihood of me completely killing a plant was dropping fast.
I now put all my eggs in two baskets, can pay more attention to the individual needs of the plants and have a stealthier grow with minimal loss in yeild.

No loss in quality.

As far as which is best.
I simply don't feel qualified answering that question.
As i see it each grower develops his/her own style and rhythm, if a giant pot that takes three to lift would suit you then great! If you'd prefer 20 small pots thats fine too.
Its all about experience, skill, set up and practice.

If you have to do soil or cocoa, I've found that fewer plants in 3-5 gallon pots is best. The more space your roots can grow in, the more growth you'll see up top. And having more plants (as in lots of them in little cups) isn't better because there are only so many lumens to distribute.

But if you really want a lot of weed fast, get 2 10-gallon tubs and put 3 plants in each. It's easy, cheap, faster, higher yielding, and less work. If you do this, consider leaving them in veg for 6 weeks and put a scrog net over the tubs.

I've been happy with my 5 gal smart pots, but have seen some very nice plants grown in the 3 gal and I am considering going to that size next time.

The pot size becomes not so much a factor when the plant gets wider than the pot....then it's the size of the plant you have to consider.

I think you are doing Great. I'd put my eggs in your basket, so to speak.

Keep going forward, you got it dialed in so far.
Thanks Aim. Learning as I go, just like everybody else.

These are fucking beautiful. How long have these monsters been in flower?
In that photo they were starting week 7 flower. This was my March harvest of AK47 and Pineapple Exp.

Thanks for the feedback guys, just trying to show big things can happen in small spaces.
