Big clones?

Sorry if this isn't the right section, I didn't see a better one. Can I take bigger clones than usual from a plant? I'm doing a medical grow with 1 small tent and I'm restricted to 3 mature plants, so I've been planning on growing autoflowering strains so I can get a harvest every 2 months. Would I be able to cut clones so they already have a couple branches, so I can flower them as soon as they grow roots and recover? That way I wouldn't need to keep buying seeds and I'd have more strains to pick from.

as far as i know you can't really clone auto's, theyre a straight shot from seed kinda deal. I've also heard that you dont want to top/fim them and that they also take less nutes than an average plant. Also the yield is pretty low. Are you sure it may not be more worth it to grow normal female plants and clone them? take a bunch of clones then pick the strongest 3, and mature them. you may be adding on an extra month of veg/cloning time but i think especially since your only allowed 3 plants it'd be a better idea to veg out the 3 plants a little longer? You can always just clone when theyre 1/2 way through budding. And to answer the big clone question, its great having big clones. the bigger the better in my opinion!

Ya no cloning autos unless u can find 1that won't flower under 24 hrs light dr green thumb has an Iranian auto that supposedly can be cloned I have also seen a semi automatic grapefruit I keep trying to pick up a pack but they are always out forget what breeder and how many immature plants can u have

I don't want to clone an auto. I'm really trying to figure out a way to get a harvest every 75 days or so with a non-auto, without going over the "3 mature plants" limit they put on medical growers. The limit on mature plants means I can't so a SOG, and I have a small tent so I can't veg plants while I flower others. I'm thinking about building a small box with CFLs to grow a mother and try to take clones that already have a branch or 2 so I can start flowering them as soon as they have good roots.

To answer your question, yes you can take bigger clones. Why take little ones when you can take bigger ones? Not being autoflower of course

Larger clones take a bit longer to root! Not by much but i see it better to clone larger and veg shorter!
but you will need a bang up mom to net you a good amount of large clones :)

That's what I wanted to hear. I was expecting problems with rooting, so a little extra time isn't that bad. It should save time in the long run. I only need 3 clones every 2 months, so hopefully it wont be too stressful on the mother. Superstoner, why do you say I wont need a mother at all?

flower 3 plants..have a mother outside the tent..is a mother considered a Mature plant??..having buds is mature right?..:wall:

I think that's right, SlayerHawk. I'm going to call my doctor to find out before I start. I'll probably try air layering instead of cloning, apparently it's common for medical growers with low plant count limits. http://www.stonerhaven.com/topic/1474-air-layering-serpentine-layering/ Layering is when a stem grows roots and it's connection to the main plant is cut off. It can happen in nature when a stem touches the ground for whatever reason. Air layering is when growers attach a growing medium like a bag of soil to the stem and cut it off the main plant once it's rooted. I think yields would suffer too much if I take big cuttings, but I guess I could use a bottom branch from each plant that would probably be trimmed anyway. What would be the best time to take cuttings if I'm cycling clones?

I wonder how many plants they would count it as if you had a plant in a huge pot and layered 5-10 branches without actually separating them from the main plant, so you had 5+ rootballs but technically 1 plant.

you clone before you put them in flower so you dont need a mother then when you are going to put clones in flower you clone them see no need for mother
