Oh, lord, yes! Pro-Mix, Coir, Sphagnum Peat, Perlite, Subcool's mix, 3 little birds, as many recipes as stars in the sky. But none as "easy" as the Super Soil. We hang Miracle Grow users 'round here!

Just depends on what you want, if you want easy, no mix, straight forward, potting soil, Super Soil will work. If you want to grow really impressive bud, you might want to look at other mediums. For example, if you want killer tasting bud, guano's and teas are the way to go. Yield and potency? Chemicals in perlite or coir, Foxfarm Nute regimen is killer, blows away my organic grows on yield, and if you'd never had guano grown weed, tastes great too. There are endless ways you can manipulate a grow medium to up your results.

If you want to do something different, you might first decide on a medium, say, peat moss and perlite, or coconut coir. For better results, roots need LOTS of air, and these mixes up that. I run 50/50 coir/perlite mix, very light and airy. Both are pretty inexpensive, and I buy coconut bricks from Burpees, cheaper than most hydro outlets. Once you have a medium, you have to feed it. You can buy bone meal, blood meal, lime, etc, at Lowes very cheap, bat guano's are going to cost more.

My first grow was peat(ProMix), guanos, earth worm castings, kelp, lime, water and molasses in 3 gal pots, veg to finish. Still one of the best grows I've ever done, and taste that will blow away an Cali hydro crap. Even my pot head buddies comment on how smooth my pot tastes.

Here's a link to some recipes you might enjoy trying:https://www.icmag.com/ic/showthread.php?t=53792 You can use a base mix, with no ferts, then water with teas. Or, you can make your own Super Mix. By the way, you can also reuse coir, I use it for up to 3 grows, just rinse it out, and add new nutes.

Hope this helps expand your horizons a bit. If you use a good mix one time, you'll never go back to Super Soil. Takes a bit of time, but the results are well worth it in yield, taste, and potency.

This shit gets confusing... SuperSoil has toooooo many meanings. To some any heavily amended "water only" style soil is a SuperSoil. To some only Subcool's "SuperSoil" recipe is SuperSoil (which is apparently available on the market now?).

Or you can take a step back to reality land. The "SuperSoil" name is already taken. It's a product produced by Scott's.

Funny stuff...

Anyway, assuming you were talking about Subcool's "SuperSoil", I personally think there are better options out there. I prefer a mix that is designed to be recycled indefinitely. I find that the soil just gets better each time I use it. I tried Subcool's recipe a few times. It definitely worked, but I kept experimenting and haven't looked back.

ok so I have decided that I am going to search out a good base soil recipe that I can feed teas and see whare that takes me because as I said before the subs pre-baged super soil works great I am just getting kinda board, when I first stared growing it was all about the hydro and any and all nutes I could pack into them to get the big yield, so this just add water deal works im just board,,,,,,,im gonna buy a tea brewer and get some shit....bat shit, worm shit, ect...

If you're getting bored, start up a worm bin or five. If you've already got worm bins, try making a sprouted seed tea. Try all kinds of things; it's a whole lot more fun and satisfying than following a recipe.

I just use Rubbermaid bins with holes punched in the bottom. Fill it about up about a third of the way with damp shredded cardboard, brown paper, leaves, peat moss, etc. Any combination of that stuff will work. Toss in a handful of soil from the yard (worms need some grit). Then get some red worms from the bait shop, garden shop, nursery, or online. Add the worms, and a cup or so of fruit/veggie scraps.

That'll get it started.

I hear you on the recycling, but what I've run into, after a few runs with the same mix, coir/perlite, the nutes get all out of whack, even with extensive rinses. I tested my last one after the 2nd grow, having flushed with gallons of water, and it had virtually no nitrogen, but was loaded with phosphorous. This gets important, as I've found I cut back on nutes in reused soil. I scorched the heck out of batch of Jack Herer with Fox Farms feeding schedule, so unless I'm using Hempy buckets(my new favorite method) with pure perlite, some nuts always stay in the soil mix.

I NEVER rinse my soil. What you likely did was wash the more soluble (nitrate) nitrogen right down the drain.

Rather than "rinsing" nutrients out of the soil, you need to concentrate on adding back the nutrients that you removed from
the the soil in the form of a plant.

Don't bother trying to recycle your soil if you are using the Fox Farms liquid nutrients. Those are NOT ORGANIC.

You should check out the Recycled Organic Loving Soil (ROLS) sticky thread at the top of the organics section. Easiest and best weed I've ever seen. People around here tell me it blows the stores away.

Hmmmm, now this is interesting, thanks. My idea is to begin each grow with a neutral medium, and read a lot of guys flushing their soil before re-using. I'd forgotten nitrogen is soluble, duh. I'm doing mostly Hempy buckets now, 100% perlite, which doesn't seem to retain anything.
