Hi all, still a newbie here. So....I'm almost there. First harvest is sneaking up on me. I'm not sure exactly what to do as theres so much confliciting advice out there.I must say, I'm not planning on curing this time...I know....I know....its better. But I'm in a bit of a rush! Thanks to anyone who takes the time to read & reply :)Im thinking....cut off the branches...hang them upside down....let them dry a bit then chop off my nuggs, put in a cardboard box to finish drying? Do they have to be in the dark at ANY point during harvesting? (Ive read to leave plant dry in pot for around 30hrs in darkness?)Thanks in advance again!!

Instead of using a cardboard box you might want to think about using some type of DIY drying trays with screen or netting stretched across them. Cutting everything into individual buds will definitely speed up the drying process. I've had good success drying buds like this. They usually dry in about 4 to 5 days then jar them and start burbing, or if you don't want to jar and cure, you could put them into brown paper bags after drying them on the racks. It should take about another day or 2 before they are crispy and DONE. Curing will usually always make them better but if your for a quick turn around this method works. Despensaries will readily buy buds dried like this.

I don't know if the 30 hour things is true, but I've read studies that show the highest THC is just before lights-on.

One way or another you have to dry out your buds or will find out what mold is all about. I have done the paper grocery bag thing where you layer your weed in a grocery bag with layers of paper. It cuts down drying time, but I still had to jar and burp for several weeks afterwards.

Curing is not something you want to skimp on....all this work you've done to get this far and to skip an important step to save a few days is not worth it in my opinion.

Thanks for the advice guys. How long roughly does it take to dry? Is the 20% of wet weight thing true? Dont want to overdry or worse....it be too damp. As I said first time.
Curing- how long do you actually have to cure for? Ive been reading & I was like "fuck that" - 6 months? Pmsl. I can imagine curing for 6 months. I would be likely to break my neck by slipping on the big trail of saliva thats built up over that time!! Haha!!

Yeah.....the buds shrink to about 25-30% of the harvest weight.

Curing times vary.....the longer the cure the better the taste (usually). My weed starts tasting nice after about 2 weeks in jars, but I smoke it 4-5 days of hanging.

Cure up to 3 months and smoke(after about 120 days all thca is naturally decarbed if stored at room temp, storing longer now sharply cuts its half life) terpenes cyclicize to corresponding terpenoids and degrade to other different smelling compounds possibly with a higher ppm sensory threshold, but only so much.. once cyclized thats it, like the decarb you dont want to store forever it wont help flavor...4 months is all you can go if you want flavor but you should stop at 3 ....dark period isn't even debatable...do it if you want or are able, it only makes a slight difference.. its damn basic and I've replied to at least 4 threads this week about it..trichs degrade in light, once it turns cloudy and is no longer metabolizing and replacing terpenes/cannibinoids, it starts to turn amber as it degrades....trichs in dark still produce....finished trichs aren't being degraded in the light while others are still maturing.....if only trichs matured at the same time.......dark period should be up to a week, to let trichs mature

Dry for a week at 65 degrees or until stem barely makes a crack when you bend it

Thanks folks. Wondering if you could answer me another question...is there any way to "speed up" ripening of an autoflower? I am nearly there, pistils are 60% brown, but plant leaves are going yellow quick & bud still has ripening to do. They are on 18/6 the now and have been since seedling :)

I don't grow auto flowers. But it is normal for leaves to yellow at the end of flower...you don't wanna harvest too early
Its not too late to fix any deficiencies....and you can't really speed em up(without sacrificing quality)

I was going to give you some tips, but since you aren't curing, your bud is gonna taste like shit anyway. So I'll pass.........................
