Best way to finish autos

I have 5 Heavyweight Vast & Fast that are near finishing. I read on Autoflower.net ( I think it was) that autos should receive as much light as possible, suggesting
20-4 and 24-0, (24-0 was debated). I also have read that putting plants (photos) in the dark for the last 24-72 hrs helps in yield and the finishing process. So I'm sure you know what my question is, would this go for autos as well or leave them at 24-0 til there where I want them.
Also, they are 80%indica 20%sativa. In your guys opinions, when would the best time to harvest this hybrid, such as in percentages of cloudy or amber?
Don't know how true it is, but was told if I harvested 80-100% cloudy for a sativa effect overtime through the curing process it would turn to a indica effect due to genetics. Any input is appreciated, thank you.

I personally have never found that whole leaving photos or autos for that matter in the dark for 24hts before harvest... Really never noticed a noticeable difference... I'd let the plant tell you when it's ready to harvest.... Eventually an autos fan leaves from the bottom going up will start to become yellow as they near the end of their life and they start to use all they got before their demise... I like to harvest any plant at min 100%cloidy usually if they will amber (now remember not all autos amber)I like 20-50% amber ;)
so only help I can really offer is to make your own personal call when to chop... If you listen closely to your ladies they'll tell you when it's time

Thank you yodabuds. Didn't know about some not turning amber, would that be just for sativa dominant?

my critical cheese is at 55 days , looking nearly ready, glad you said about the leaves yellowing thing, its as if the plant starts to die, leaves are yellowing and , dying , keeping an eye on them using x60 microscope, trichs are cloudy , 1 or 2 amber tips of trichs, so close to harvesting , just trying to wait a few more days,
i have heard about the dark thing for 2 days , grow shop told me 36 hrs??

image.jpgDo tell more about the crop as I'm growing 3 of them, what do they look like before cutting down and how is the buzz?

Well they look darn fat and juicy. I've been smoking bho of the trim aswell and the stone it's good. Still curing but it's fucking niiiice. I'll post a link up to my journal when I stick the rest of it up. I weighed it at 148g but it was sticky as... So I reckon just over 3oz for one plant. Got another that's lagging behind and I reckon that's about 4/5oz easy as it's much bigger, fatter and stronger.

Nice strain, smokes a little like cheese but it's definitely not a full cheese because I'm not keen on cheese. Maybe it's just me that thinks that though coz the missus doesn't think so.

Bricktop pretty much settled this for me.

"The Stichting Institute of Medical marijuana (SIMM), the first company to sell marijuana through the pharmacies of Holland, has been investigating the medical possibilities of cannabis, together with TNO laboratories and the University of Leiden.

One of their discoveries has been that to keep the ripe plants in the dark before harvesting could increase their potency.SIMM’s growers separated a crop of mature plants, harvested half of them and kept the other half in absolute darkness for 72 hours before cutting and drying. Analysis of the resulting dried buds showed that some varieties had seen an increase of THC of up to 30%, while CBD and CBN remained the same."

check out this thread. Give it a shot. Check out the white widow thread and related info on there...

"The dark cycle keeps the flowers from re-growth and stresses the plant into giving up its last drop of goodness as crystal to protect the flower! The buds have so much THC on them that it is hard to see them at all"
