An old forum member by the name of "hobbes" had some pretty in depth threads on the topic. You could do a quick search on this site or google and I'm sure you'll find them.

Great thread OP. I feel your pain.

In the past I suffered from a mild form of Bi Polar that ended up being linked with my diet! Nowadays things are not so bad as long as I stay on a strict diet. Going to the Doctor about it was the worst thing I could have done. they misdiagnosed me with some kind of medical complaint and put me on strong drugs. Quite frankly I didn't know much about anything during that time and they did not help.

Weed is a good medicine for this complaint but you must be careful about what strain you mix with each mood.

For example when you are hyper and your mind is racing and you cannot sleep a couch lock 100% Indica is what you need.

When you are completely unable to even get out of bed/the house due to depression/lethargy a Sativa can help to get you going.

However in between whic is most of time is a bit trickier.

Trial an error is the way to go.

Just one word of caution - be careful of Paranoia inducing strains. Often the ones with soaring head highs. In the wrong frame of mind they can induce some pretty scary mindsets which will only make things worse.

Here is a site that I find helpful for categorizing the effects of different strains... http://www.leafly.com/

I wish you all the best and a happy future.

hmm if you have mood swings i think its important to get it right or it might not help you at all

maybe have high cbd low thc strains to combat your hyperactivity up spells to calm you down and mellow you out
cbd being anti psychotic

http://cbdcrew.org/varieties/

and higher thc strains for your low depressed spells to liven you up and cheer you up

high thc weed does have the ability to be mildly psychedelic mood changing perception changing etc maybe weed potent like this would not be good when you are having a real high mood swing
and strong indica might make you feel worse if you are down and lethargic anyway
there are so many people that would not recommend smoking weed for mental conditions but still, its much safer than the nasty DRUGS they would have you on other wise

peace good luck :)

Super Lemon Haze is a good strain if you want something that is more of a head high. This SLH that I just harvested gets my thoughts racing in my head, and I start thinking about some off the wall shit. Definitely a daytime smoke unless you want to stay up late at night. I like it.

Only kinda related but I have a few friends that are Bi Polar and they are huge fans of LSD, Mushrooms, and many other psychedelics. I don't know if they help, or maybe even the opposite. Either way they greatly appreciate the experience. Hope I don't offend, I know this isn't quite the right forum.
I know someone with bipolar disorder who has completely sworn off smoking weed, absolutely convinced that it made his symptoms worse.

Just beware, that's all.

You are absolutely right. If you mix the wrong strain with the wrong mood it can make the symptoms worse. However some testing in a safe and supportive envirnment should help you narrow it down.

I also think that just feeling your are trying to help or control yourself is a big help in itself. One of my good friend is bipolar and he says that self medicating is a symptom and I don't know if its all the weed he smokes helping of just the thinking he's doing something for it. He smokes anything from shitty schwag to top shelf and I think the worst thing for him is being out. He prefers to spend less so usually has a way lower quality smoke and it does him fine most the time, with better stuff getting him more intoxicated. He's been on a lot of different prescriptions and prefers weed and budweiser. I think most of it is mental, but still real. And like I mentioned before he and some other people seem really like psychedlics. Maybe it helps put things in perspective.

Abe, about seeing the taco resin? Once I perfected making bho there is resin on everything, just ask my wife, I told here that is how things are now!

stay away from heavy indica if you're depressed. you need a good sativa to inspire and see above the clouds. yet in excess that can make a homie get anxiety and even better, mania. then a wee bit of indy to balance shit out. good luck.
Exactly this. Try things out. the great part with trying different strains is that you don't have to "crash" in between like you do with pills! I really, really love to have a good indica/hybrid and a good sativa in stock at all times. Sativa when I am in a more depressive state or if I want to motivate myself when I'm in not giving a shit mode and indica or a hybrid when I'm in a anxious and manic state.

I would highly recommend trying to involve others to help you through this that can give you clues on things. Sometimes we aren't the best at viewing and evaluating ourselves, if that makes sense. I was lucky because my doctor that I was with since 7th grade when I was diagnosed as bipolar is actually supportive of it and is very interested in how the treatment has gone so far. My whole family is participating(even though they are mormon still and don't really like cannabis) and providing feedback on how it's working to my psychiatrist

I've been off pills for a while now, about a year! I've never been happier. My swings are much smoother and I really don't deal with my disorder on a daily basis anymore(which I never thought would be possible before) and when I do really have a bad day or week and my bipolar overwhelms me all it takes is getting a bit ripped and having a sandwich and it snaps me out of that mentally exhausting and depressive spiral that goes down and down. I don't have the shitty side effects and my liver isn't being destroyed.

I hope it works well for you! To be honest I've noticed that people like different strains and there's no strain to really recommend other then what our favorites are. Some strains just hit you right. experiment.
