Best method of Germinating?

I've heard many ways of germinating seeds,
but what I was wondering is their one with the highest ratio of rooting?
Also does it depend on strain?
I have 10 (fem) big bud seeds, I want as many as I can get to plant.
Any advice, tips, suggestions?

i dont know if this is the 'best' way, but its the way i germ, and ive had great results with this method.

get a moist paper towel, not soaking wet but damp. fold in half and then set seeds all over the towel, and then fold in half a couple more times....put paper towel in a sealed glass jar, then i put the jar in a duffel bag or just anything that wont let light in, make sure the room is not to hot or cold. and then wait. ive had some show tap root within 24 hours. some 3-4 days. good luck

Well, I've used the kitchen tissue paper method on both grows I've done, and EVERY seed germinated,

In theory, unless your seeds are of poor quality, you should have a good germination rate.

Ok, not all seeds germinate, there's the odd one which wont.

I conjured up the idea that growing Marijuana was really hard and technical, until I germinated the seeds!

In general, a seed needs warmth, and moisture to germinate.
I wouldn't go as far as putting the seeds in a sealed jar, just a non transparent bowl, 2/3 sheets of kitchen towel as the liner, toilet tissue's a no-no,
Then maybe 2 sheets on top.
Keep them moist, but not flooded with water.
Cover with cling film, etc, and put in a dark cupboard / airing cupboard that's warmish.

Well my seeds are straight from Holland and they have assured me they are of great quality. So hopefully I can hold them to that claim and give this method a shot.

I appreciate the help, this is gonna be my first grow and I hope it turns out promisin'. :joint:

I don't want to be a pain,
but feminized seeds are very troublesome and can turn at the slightest discomfort into hermies, That happened me this week after much care and attention, 10 PPP all hermies 7th week in flower,
Apparently, this is a typical scenario when fems, I have been well advised to stay clear of them and take the time to sex your seeds,

I do hope you have better luck than I .... wet paper towel in a jar with the cover on works perfectly, Once the roots appear, get them transplanted immediately so as to get them used to your medium asap.... good luck fellow smoker

I don't want to sound like a dick, but where in holland? Just cause they are from Holland doesn't make them respected strains. Alot of bums, conn artists and retards live in holland, just like everywhere else. Likewise, there are some kick ass strains floating around in places where cannabis is illegal, like the states. And I'm sure they told you it was of great quality, I've never met a dealer that told me "here are some seeds, they sure are shit though".

Respected breeders and respected strains are more important than the country they came from or what the seller says.

Personally (to answer your first question) I soak my seeds in room temp water for 24 hours before I put them into the paper towel. If they start to crack open before the paper towel I just put them right into the soil. 95% germinate after 5 days in the paper towel. I use a non-clear ziplock bag, put the paper towel in it and blow it up like a baloon, keeping it in a 80-85 degree room. The 5% that dont germinate I use the match box with sandpaper in it technique and repeat. Works just about every time.

I get the best results using paper towel inside a cd case ontop of something slightly warm (cable box, lights, etc etc)

Hey thanks, I'm going to put them in some paper towel right now. It appears that it is the most suggested germination method. I appreciate the help!

Oh and about the seeds, I'm not advertisin' for them by any means but I got them from Buy Marijuana Seeds and cannabis seeds from Holland - high quality marijuana seeds (cannabis seeds)

I would recomend against putting it in a computer. Depends on the computer but some can get hot, you could end up frying your seeds. Just put it in a warm (not hot) damp place.

I hear ya Schwarts, I know you're not an ad for them. I've never bought from them, I try to stay away from places that their main advertisement is saying they are from the Netherlands ... for reasons I stated above. But after looking at the site it appears they have some generally reputable seeds. That is if that's what they are actually sending you .... let us know how they turn out.

I too use the paper towell method and have had good success. I decided to tweek it a little bit this time. I have also have some seeds I bought from Holland also and wanted the best I could to get them all to germinate. I bought a germinating pad off E-BAY and a dome seed tray, the kind in all the garding stores.About 20 inches long I then got bottled water (my house water sucks!!)and put the pad and tray on my hot water heater. I HAD 36 SEEDS only 4 did not germinate. Most in 24 hours. The longest took 40 hours. Good luck!!:?

I have heard that feminized seeds have a higher probability of turing hermy, but I have never heard of 10 out of 10 turning. I also have never used feminized seeds. I prefer the chance, like a game of lottery. It feels like I win when I get a female :)

I can't rationalize buying one of those seed starting heat pads myself. If I was germinating super hard peper plants, yeah that makes sense. Or if I only had like 4 seeds that a buddy gave me from the 70s that were super strong, yeah. But mj is a weed, it will grow under nearly any conditions. The seed tray, in my opinion, costs more than it is worth. I get stellar results from a paper towel, water, and a plastic bag, all costing less than 5 cents.

for what's worth, i have about a 98% germination rate using the moist paper towel in a zip-lock on a computer case method. but you need to plant them as soon as they crack or are showing a bit of tap root - like this...
