I'll be honest the only thing I know of that cost under 50 is just a bunch of CFL's

I know that HPS and MH if you go to home depot ... MH is about 32 bux and HPS is about 40 bux

but the HPS was 150 or 400w...
and the MH was like...150w...
so a good MH or HPS bulb... 50+

just hit the CFL's if money is really a factor
in my box i'm throwing in 8 CFL's just for 2 plants...
and CFL's cost like 4 dollars each

Try Ebay or Craigslist, maybe you can get a decent used light.
$50 is'nt gonna buy anything.

Just the bulbs I use cost $80.....

150 W HPS bulbs aren't gonna do much

get a 400W at least...

its only going to be be a 2ftx2ft grow box, most of my budget is goin towards ventilation. Does anybody think I can get some pretty good results with the 2 150w hps.

i'm making a grow box also and i was measuring it out...
how many plants are you going to put in yours
because if it's a 2ft by 2ft... it's only going to fit like... 1 plant...

you could get decent results with 2 150s
but with the same money you can by a 400w i think

unless your thinking of putting the bulbs in 2 different places then

A very general rule of thumb is that your garden needs 50 watts of HID lighting per square foot of illuminated area. This rule ignores the shape of your garden, so the following is really a better guide:

A 250 watt HID will illuminate a 2' x 2' garden.
A 400 watt HID will illuminate a 3' x 3' garden.
A 600 watt HID will illuminate a 3.5' x 3.5' garden.
A 1000 watt HID will illuminate a 4' x 4' garden.

that was in the GROWFAQ.

I read some where that 150w hps can get good results you just have to pay particular attention to height adjustments.
