how is your gpw so far?
my mars 900 grew buds like that it was about 500 actual draw.
cobs have given me far more yield and potency. perhaps not as much frost.
2 years ago was 1800$ now they selling them for 1390$ something like that.

I'd live in that over 99% of the horrendous "real house" casualties of the 70's I drive by everyday. Or 80's, 90's, 00's for that matter.

I don't think the car analogy is useful in this case. Youre not hopping in your lamp to go pick up chicks. It's a tool and I want it to "look premium" as much as I want my impact driver to "look premium". You're paying for a beemer to be seen in a beemer.

My plants also don't give a rats ass how sexy my lamp's lines are when it's pumping out photons.

There is no vanity attached to a beastly diy cob lamp*, just satisfaction and pride.

*OK OK sds, mau5, and a few others exceptions to that rule but GENERALLY speaking

If you looked at my lighting system, you'd see I'm more like the guy who builds his vehicle in the Home Depot parking lot:

If it weren't for PVC, I wouldn't know what to do. See:
That's hardly snooty, high-end stuff. Why would we recommend CMH and T5HO if we were hoity toity?

The only people who come off sounding ayran about their lighting choices are the MarsHydro users. They're the ones who seem defensive about the light they own.

People just have a hard time when they're told that their precious little Mars light is actually fucking junk. They get a little butthurt, and say "Well, IT WORKS FOR ME!". Hence my analogy of a car. It's the Geo Metro of LED tech.
If this light is anywhere near the subpar quality of a Geo then it suuuuuux....lol

Hey guys, If someone is willing to spend around $1200.00 for a LED do you think there's a better light out there for the money than the spydr 600???
I have a spydr, and I have a friend who is about to start growing, so I'd like to be able to give him some other alternatives to look at before he just goes & plops down $1200.00 on one of these just based solely on the fact that I did. THANKS!!

When it comes to running cobs over the nominal voltage, why? CXB 3590 is nice, but if we're talking about efficiency 42% efficient it isn't exactly cutting edge any more. After driver and fan loss that unit is about 430 watts and 180 PAR watts.

Looking around one might find that "other companies" offer 200 PAR watts for $1000 in a 53% efficient package. I am talking about my own, but I have to be competitive without shooting myself in the foot. Tasty isn't the only company out there offering near or over 50% efficient lamps in the $5 per par watt range.

Hey Rahz, was wondering if there was a max amount of wattage (COB) that a 3x3 could handle?

Wattage will be variable but it's been demonstrated that 1500 PPFD is the maximum light intensity the plants can deal with before growth rates begin to decline. Even with COBs there will be some intensity variance across the canopy so keeping things under 1300 PPFD is a good idea.

6 CXB 3590s at 2.1 amps would provide 1350 PPFD in a 3x3, would be 453 watts dissipated, 231 PAR watts.

6 at 1.75 amps would provide 1145 PPFD (375 watts 200 PAR watts)

8 at 1.4 amps, 1285 PPFD, 398 watts, 223 PAR watts

10 at 1.05 amps, 1230 PPFD, 355 watts, 213 PAR watts

16 at .7 amps, 1360 PPFD, 368 watts, 235 Par watts

I'm thinking any of those 3 middle options would be really intense without being too crazy about it.
