Beginner Budget Grow?

Hi I have watched a couple videos about growing and the one that I am going to be heading towards is "I Grow Chronic" and his method. I am just wondering if anyone had some suggestions on what sort of equipment I could buy.

I am trying to keep the price down as low as possible, and I have found a place around here that has all sorts of gardening supplies including Rockwool and everything for hydroponic growing, now I just need to start making a list of all the other materials needed..

The room that I'll be using is about 5x5 and about 8-9 foot tall.. I will also be trying to purchase things at separate stages like the vegetative side first and then the side to harvest as we get closer to harvesting the plants.

If anyone could help me out with this list and getting it as cheap as possible that would be a great help.

If you want inexpensive we would recommend DWC. Very simple to upkeep and cheap to make. You can get 10-18 gallon totes and put a few plants with a air stone and air pump.

I don't really understand the way the DWC works.. I know I've already got a tote that I was gonna use for the water for a EBB grow, but I don't know how to do the DWC build, would if work well with Purple Haze and White Widow because I actually have seeds for those already..

There should be good info here. Basically you would cut holes into the lid of the tote(how ever many plant you want in the same container). Get net pot the size of the holes you cut(I would recommend 4x3" net pots per tote). Cut a smaller hole for the air line and air stone to run into the bottom of the tote and power with a air pump for say a aquarium. You plant your seedling or cutting in rock wool cubes or jiffy pellets or whatever you use and then put those in the net pots with some clay pellets.
So what you are doing is suspending the bottoms of the plants into the nutrient water and allowing the roots to grow into the water. You MUST make sure that NO LIGHT REACHES THE ROOTS. This can cause algae growth which you don't want. Running the air stone, pump ext is important to keep the water oxygenated and to keep the nutrients circulating.
If your strains have really different flower periods seperate containers would be better.

Alright man thanks a lot I'll start going that way at first then branch out with a little bit of other grows when I know some more about it :)

That sounds like a good idea. Keeping it simple for a couple of grows is a good thing to do imo. Getting your feeding, temps and humidity down while also keeping your ladies healthy and happy should be #1.

How much do you want to get out of the room? Big dif between a few plants and making money at it. WW is a good one for a perpetual.

Dude just run and Ebb& flow and keep it simple.

Check craigslist for a cheap, used flood table.
If not, go to Lowes/Home depot and get a 3'x2' concrete mixing tub.
They should be in the section with all the bricks &cinderblocks (at home depot, at least)
Then buy a rubbermaid tote (~25 gals) for your reservoir.

Go to the hydro store and get some fill/drain bulkheads and drill them into your tray.
Then buy some 6" pots and some hydroton.

pop your clones in there are and you're ready to roll.

If you live in SD I will give you 3 setups just like that already done. Used many times and still good.

Unfortunately I don't live in ND, I live on the east coast. I'm not looking to grow a lot, just plenty to smoke and for a few friends. I looked at both Ebb & Flow, DWC and the NFT and I also found a couple Hydro shops around here and they are actually insanely cheap, so the most expensive part I need to get is the lightbulb really..

But whats the simplest hydro setup that I would be able to make without throwing tons of money around, I also got some rockwool and clay pellets and some hanging plant pots as well..

OK bit of advice. Go Ebb& Flow Build your own trays and tanks I got mine a target if you look in my albums you will see my old grow with them and they worked great. Use Hydroton only .DO not use anything out of the outside garden unless sterilized Get the biggest HPS you can afford your buds both your friends and your plants will love you Use Dyna Gro nutes all of them Use no additives until you get used to hydro and even then I think they are a waste. Must have hydrozyme at all times in your rez!! Grow WW make a mother clone it and use those to build your grow this will allow time for your to work out the bugs of your system (there will be issues I promise!!) WW has great stems and makes big colas and you can top it to make 4 or 6 of them. You should read up on Al B FUCTS threads about harvest every 2 weeks there is a lot of shit to learn in there. I have been right where you are at so this comes with experience and fuck ups with it. Hydroponics is not easy and if you go slow and methodical you will have success.

Heh yeah I've been reading up on that and I'm actually thinking about making 1 portion just for the mother, and then have 3 other sets of trays so I can harvest about every 3 weeks of like 2-3 plants..

Yeah I know there will definitely be fuck ups for sure but just trying to learn as much before I start germinating my seeds and waiting on the WW and PH so I can just learn how to grow instead of wasting the seeds and having something go wrong and just waste some great seeds. I'll definitely be having one side as a mother now what all would I need for just the mother? Just some trays, a res some tubing/drain pipes, nutes, light obviously, and is that it?

Now what is hydrozyme?

What I did is plant 6 seeds grow them to clone age then move the clones into my flower to sex once sexed you know which ones to keep and you already have some into flower.

I built the exact thing i built for my main room everything was the same.

Hydrozyme keeps your shit clean and you do not have to fuck with it like h202 I promise you use Dyna Gro and Hydrozyme you will have no issues with shit in your tanks.

Okay, now for the Ebb & Flow, what sort of lights should I have for the rooms? T5 fluorescent for mother (what type like 3000k spectrum or 6400 for daylight?) and either a 400 or 600 HPS for flowering?

Alright thanks a lot man I think I got a list of what all I need from now.. and I'll try and get some pics up whenever I have everything together, also about how long should I wait to take a clone out to see if its a male or female?
