BCseedKing.com – “Purps” (non feminized) http://bcseedking.com/indoor-outdoor-seeds/purps.html

From the website: This is a very disease resistant plant, the taste is superb smooth and has an exceptionally rich sweet aroma. The buds are extremely sticky with a beautiful color. This is the strongest plant ever created. It’s an excellent smoke; this one is an absolute must for all growers. And we also have feminized Purps.

Flowering Time: 8-9 weeks. (Reality 48 days)
Shipping: Shipping from BCSK was great. Package was stealth and arrived approx. 5 working days after order. Reliable bank.
Conditions: Plants were kept between 65 and 90 degrees with a norm of 85 with lights on, and typically going down to 72 with lights off. Vegetative growth was under an 8 bulb 4’ T5, with 6500K bulbs 54w each. Flowering was under a 1000w HPS. Grow medium was Roots Organic soil in 5 gallon smart pots. Grow area was approx. 17.5 sq. ft., vented with dual fan window fan and 400 CFM inline 6” fan for HPS. Kept 12” oscillating fan on plants whole life.
Germination: Received 20 seeds (thank you BCSK), planted 18, 18 sprouted 1 died. 2 seeds were kept for rainy day.
Male to female: Out of the 17 seeds that survived 8 were lost due to me going on vacation and no water for 4 days, out of the 9 survivors 5 were female and 4 were male. Males were culled. Females were cloned during veg prior to flower.
Growth Pattern: Plant stays short and bushy, inter-node spacing is very tight and branches start to develop after sexual maturity (usually by 12th true node). Sexing of plants was obvious by the 8th true node. Canopy management like a SCROG is recommended for best yield. Plant responds well to FIM’ing and topping.
Vegetative stage: 18/6 Veg went well for first 2 – 3 weeks, plants sprouted and took off. After the 3rd week started to introduce Fox Farm Grow Big. About the same time I started to notice a slight yellowing of the leaves indicating a nitrogen deficiency. After using the fox farm grow big the leaves slowly turned back to normal. Growth was stunted for what seemed like 2 weeks. Then plants started growing like weeds again. At 8 weeks from germ switched to 12/12. Note the plant height was anywhere from 1’ to 2’. Growth between seeds was anything but consistent. Clones were taken from the females and the males were destroyed.
Flowering stage: Switched plants to Fox Farm Tiger Bloom ½ strength. After day 3 of 12/12 be ready for a growth spurt, this spurt will last approx. 2 – 3 weeks and the plants will double in size. After that they will mellow out vertically and begin developing buds. Note at about week 4 I switched to full strength Tiger Bloom, this caused a cal/mg lockout and I was forced to flush medium several times and add lime to get PH up above 6. In hindsight I should have added lime to the soil from the start, and I should have flushed before switching to bloom nutes. It was too late and damage was done, growth of the buds stunted. Lost 50% of fan leaves by week 6. They would develop a dark patch dry up and die. Needless to say the plants could have been in better conditions. 4 of the 5 went herm but it was not too bad, i found maybe 40 seeds total. The clones that were taken are currently in an aero-ponic system and are growing 2x as fast as the soil and show no signs of nute deficiencies.
Harvest: After 7 weeks of flowering I could see most trichomes were cloudy. So I decided to harvest. Lower “pop corn” buds were loose and lacked any weight, but were covered in crystals. Also some plants went herm on me (2 out of 5 females). Herm was not that bad and only found 3 male flowers on whole crop. So far found 40 seeds. The upper branches produced dense heavy buds dripping with resin. There were slight shades of purple on the swollen calyxes on 4 of the 5, but it was not predominant. If anything, I would say this resembles a cheese strain, and not Grand Daddy Purps or Querkle. As for the weight; I cannot say for sure I don’t own a scale since I don’t sell. If I had to guess I would say on the biggest female I got 4-5 oz. and 2 out of the smallest.
Smoke and Smell:Smells piney and almost like mint, also while drying I swear I catch a whiff of ammonia? It does not produce a very strong odor while growing if ventilated properly, but very pungent during cure. Smoke was smooth and the high was that of an Indica. Medically this is good for sleep, anxiety, nausea, and depression.
Conclusion: Easy to grow plant which is great for beginners; plant is sensitive to PH and WILL lockout nutes if it is not kept in check always watch your run off. Feeding can be difficult so don’t give too much too soon or too often. Smell is not a big concern for this plant when growing. I have a feeling this plant would do well in a northern climate outdoors. Its fast flowering time and good yield make this one a keeper. Can’t wait to see what it will do after 3 or 4 generations and I get it tuned in.

Now for the show...

Thanks for the complements. This was not grown in a tent it was a closet and produced 14 oz total off of 5 plants under a 1000w HPS.... not a great ratio .4 g per watt. So I made an investment into a hydroponic system and was able to get the same result, but off of only 3 plants and not as much stress so no herm seeds. Now on third cycle I had to flower my mother plant because of spider mite problem and size of the mother / management of her. She has been vegging for close to 15 weeks and is a MONSTER of a plant. I expect to get the same amount this round but off of just 1 plant. I will update as things progress.

Nice grow. I've been growing white widow from BCseedking and it looks exactly the same as the prups you're growing... It even starts to turn purple 7 weeks in, esp the calyxes and fan leafs. I've kind of doubted it was true WW anyhow. Did your plants have a very weak smell while growing, then a strong hay smell for the first week of drying?

I love it no matter what strain.. crazy crystals

Yeah plants have almost no smell when growing but during cure they get a strong punchy odor. Almost smells like ammonia the way it hits ya. I had a LOT of variation within the seeds that I germinated some buds were all caylyx while others were all hairs. Either way its good smoke and decent yeild but I now have some doubts as to the genetics.

That's great to hear. Good luck with her, and for anyone looking on an update I was able to pull 13 oz off of 1 plant in a 5 gal smart pot. The plants really love the hydro system though.

it doesn't sound like authentic purps. cannabible said it tastes like some kind of berry, blackberry or maybe even black cherries with something more like a mid buzz. i was always interested in it as the description made it sound like it was in his top 10. the only time i've seen it sold in bean form, it was crossed with something else.

thanks for the report.

BC Bud Depot took the cutting of Mendo Purps that they received and bred it with Space Queen.
They grew out the offspring, found a fantastic Sativa pheno, and back crossed it to the a fore mentioned Mendo Purps cutting.
The results are bitchin' and will be a planted in my next grow :)

As for the taste, it has the "purple weed" taste that most purple plants have.
I wouldn't call it berry or anything along those lines, but it's more pleasant tasting then most of the standard green weed out there.
