BC Producer: First Grow

I'm starting up this thread for my first grow. I bought a BC Northern Lights Producer off of Craigslist for 2k and then promptly sat on it for months before I finally found clones. My goals are modest: I'm just trying to lower the cost of the medicine I provide for a family member. I'd be happy with a 1/2 pound per cycle. I'm not trying to make money—this is strictly for personal use. I understand the Producer catches a little flack for not being to most economical way to grow. However, as a person who works a 50 hour week, the ease of use really appealed to me.

I have 1/2 King Louie and 1/2 Skywalker in the box. The clones are rooted pretty well in the rockwool and those were dropped in the hydroton. I flipped the box right to flower and currently have the nutes at 1200PPM (too high?)

I'm just gonna post away and if anyone sees me doing something wrong or has a great strategy please feel free to chime in as I could use a little help.

So apparently it's only taken me 3 days to begin the process of killing these plants. I leave for work this morning and everything looks fine. My wife sends me a text 4 hours later that the plants are wilted.

Question: Is this a water issue or too many nutes?

I kinda thought the Producer was taking care of the water issue but I'll be damned if this doesn't look like a plant that just needs water and is wilting under the lights.

Anyone have any thought before I kill off the rest of them?

So I cut the nutes back by 1/2 but I'm still burning the plants. My tap water is at 140 PPM and I have the total (tap + food) at 600PPM. Still too much. On Saturday I'll try Ro water and drop the food down to 200.

The good news is that they're not dead yet and in fact still growing. I have a few roots poking out. This weekend I'll pop a few more stones in the res to double the bubble.

Bought a wet vac to speed up the res change. Much better and only 30 bucks.

@troythepooh14 as much as I suck a hydro I'm gonna stay at it to learn.

14 DAYS
THIS THREAD IS ALWAYS OPEN FOR COMMENTS

So I made some upgrades and tweaks to my little Producer. The first thing I did after seeing the roots a few days ago was hook up more air stones. I had to pull all the plants out—nightmare.

The other thing I did was get better water. I dragged home 2 bottles of Arrowhead from work so I'd have the bottles. Next week I'll just grab RO water from the store. I also bought some CalMag http://www.americanagritech.com/supplements/cal-mag as from what I've read around here that's the way to go. With the CalMag and Sensi Bloom I have my PPM this week at 300. This includes the 40PPM of the Arrowhead water. I'm hoping to never see leaves like this again.

I also bought a little wet vac so I can get the water out of this thing without a production.

Lastly I changed the normal drippers to stake drippers and ditched the tinfoil for proper covers.

Here's a photo of the Skywalker starting to flower.

DAY 16

Another dead one. Not sure WTF happend but I came home to this guy just fried. I dropped the tray way I was adding more air stones so maybe it stressed the plant. Who knows.

However, what's happening to these lower leaves? Why are they getting a little yellow? They're not looking so hot. Any advice?

is this your first grow ever or your first grow with hydro? I would love to help but have no idea about anything hydro. I see those grows coming in the future but it's all soil for now.

Yeah man this is my fist grow ever in any medium. I've killed a few plants off with stupid mistakes like not having the water switch in the right position for the first 3 days. Doh! But I think I've pulled the nose up.

cool man. I don't know if it is even feasible to try to transplant into a soil medium from hydro but the maintenance ins't that hard if you can. If one has ever grown tomatoes, it's about that easy. Getting started took a bit of trial and error but once the plants got about 3 weeks old, everything was dialed in pretty well. I now water about every 6 days and don't even have to touch them in those other days if I choose not to. Also, I keep everything on this guys program he wrote known as HERB. I.Q. https://www.rollitup.org/general-marijuana-growing/345468-free-grow-software.html it's free and helps me keep track of everything I have done and has lots of cool options that I'm still exploring. I wish you luck man and am subbed to see how this goes.

Day 19

Just a simple update. PH at 5.6 this morning. PPM at 590.

Been having some issue with lower leaves turning yellow. Getting a little advice from this thread. I hope it helps.

Photo is taken with veg light on for clarity.

It's funny that so far the only advice I've gotten about my hydro grow is to consider switching to soil. While appreciated it scares me a little. It hydro that hard?

more LIGHT. more bubbles. Stick with the hydro. When and if you ever get everything dialed in perfect you can almost see the growth.

I just have the veg light on for photos. There's actually 800 watts of light in this tiny little box and last week I doubled up on the bubbles. There's 8 air stones in the res!

But with all that, why are my leaves yellow?

The buds are looking good on the other thread. For some reason, it looks like some of them are stretching pretty bad. Usually this derives from not enough light being close enough to the plants. It could very well be genetics or something too. So with 800 watts, i dunno. I saw your other thread. I'm glad somebody with some real experience can help you bro. My leaves did the same thing and it was all about the PH in the soil. It was in the 8's and I'm guessing this locks out certain stuff. I got it back down to the high six's and there are no more discolorations.

if ur ph is 5.6-5.8 ur fine, but for the amount of light ur putting it they seem to be stretching alot, what kind of light is it?

It has two 400 HPS bulbs right above the glass on the right and left. When I take photos I always turn on the CFL that's for veg so the photos don't look crazy but that definitely been confusing people. Trust me when the real lights are on it's like Jesus in in the room.

I have 2 strains in here: Skywalker and King Louis which are the taller ones. I believe it's the breed and not the lights as they've always seems a little tall for their age.

FYI: I have one of these. it's just first gen and I picked it up used out of CraigsList as the price new is out of control.
