Banana peels for fertilizer?

Is it safe to use banana peels for ferts? They have a lot of nutrients that are found in expensive fertilizers.

Has anyone ever done it before? Results?

I think I am going to use a dehydrater to dry the peels out and then crush them up and add them to water.

You would really need to make a compost out of all your fruit peelin's ect... I would think the banana peel would have to be broken down before the plants could use it.
