Ballast setup

Hey guys i'm in need of some expert advice with some electrical operation i need to perform in order to setup my ballast


I'm currently using fluorescents, which is not really working for me.
So yesterday i picked up a ballast for a medium based HPS bulb. I got the bulb for free, which moved me to buy a ballast to operate it with. So i open the box and find a transformer and igniter along with minimal instructions. I suppose its assumed you know how to install if you buy parts seperate, anywho it didnt come with a capacitor. I really dont know if that is neccessary, but i've heard its optional. Can someone point me to some instructions, preferably with pictures. I read somewhere that i could use an electrical cord and use a wire cutter to connect to ballast. Not sure what a 14-gauge power cord is but ok. PLEASE ANYONE HELP!



So basically i have a porcelain white socket for 100watt bulb. Here's the funny thing i heard that the hps bulbs come with bigger screw caps, but my 100watt fits in any household socket...

Go online and get yourself a proper ballast and light setup. That looks like very hard work, and to be honest doesnt look fit for the job.

I probably should have mentioned i only intend to grow one plant, due to very strict space restrictions. And i'm growing in one of these storage boxes.

Sounds like you are going to be heading down a ruff road....You have alot more to do after getting your tiny light going....You might want to re-think this equation...

HAHA yeah i know. But this isnt my overall setup. I have ventilation in place air circulation is fine and the plant is about 5 days old under flourescent.

The 100watt HPS emits 9500 lumens plus I can add 1 or 2 CFL's. The plant now sits within 1sqft of space the storage box is about 2 1/2 sqft..hopefully this gives a visual of what i'm working with.

Do you want some links to places to purchase a light? Did you start from seed?

Yeah i started from seeds. I know more than enough places to buy lights, the problem is funds are low. Expenses need to be minimized for now, so thats why acting all frugal.
