View attachment 3361188 Grown in "unbaked" compost, straight from the back yard. Still, it us pretty baked :blsmoke:
Hey indicat, is that an indica? looks tasty.

Im just saying you sound like an idiot saying that the reason you dont need to nuke soil is because it *doesnt happen naturally* when your creating a completely un natural environment. If you wanna be a condescending ass hat to anyone that comes here asking questions that fine... but let me give you some advice that the sample pool stretches a little further than 2 grows....

Soil contains bugs. Sometimes it contains bad bugs. And Im probably even more aware than you that bugs dont always colonize out of soil, but the fact remains that ITS POSSIBLE. And if they are present, they can colonize, which makes this a pretty good question from a noob.

I have never 'steralized' a medium as its not warranted with proper care...

Are you saying that you HAVE steralized your medium in your grows ezcept the last 2 as an *experiment*?

That might be the only laughable thing ive seen here lol, besides that bud you posted :p
I was beginning to think I should have put this under newbie central:dunce:

I already stated that I simply used the compost as is, (NO STERILIZATION). If your head wasn't so far up your ass, you might have picked up on that. Look, I'm not negating the importance of pest control for the newbs, I'm ONLY sharing my own experience with my own compost. GOT IT, Numb-Nuts ? :wall:

I believe you also stated "the last 2 grows as an experiment"

Which is why I asked.

I have been sing my home-made, decade-old compost for the last 2 crops without any sterilization. Worst thing I've found was a 4-leaf clover sprouting in one of the pots :peace:
Re read your own post? You cant see why I might have wondered?

Has anyone heard of baking the soil before you use it? To get rid of any larvae. ... would this work?
I think baking would be a pain.

When I need to sterilize I use a large pot with the grate on the bottom to keep the bag from melting. Put over large outdoor burner and keep at temp.
And done :-)
No mess or open bags

A good compost pile will heat up enough to effectively kill off pathogens. So, in a way, you have been growing in sterilized soil all along.

*hahahaha hahaha* um... that's the point... indoor growing has NONE of the NATURAL pest deterrence. .. which is why a STERILE grow site is recommended.

Think, then post

*
My 'natural pest deterrence' is something like: EWC's/earthworms, hypoaspis miles, nematoads, predatory mites, beneficial bacteria, rock dust, neem/karanja, kelp, etc, etc. There is nothing sterile about my environment or my soil.

This is the organic section correct?

go back to the hydro section man, we don't need your negative attitude here, especially with comments like the last sentence.
nobody went through your post and poked fun at your grammatical errors so just keep your opinions to yourself.
the world is full of assholes, try not to add to it.

i'm beginning to think that people don't get it.
which in turn makes it to where I Just don't get it, myself.
My IPMs are crab meal, insect meal, neem meal, and aloe/horsetail/comfrey sprays.
Bugs are EVERYWHERE, the key is to control them, if you try to eradicate them you'll be spending $$$ on every spray known to mankind.
I have had mites for decades, no matter where I grow, and the BEST thing to control them is a preventative way, via the soil and plants health.
Period.
OR spray a bunch of chemicals that have NEVER been tested on anything that is meant to be smoked.
Then maybe in a decade or two wonder why you got cancer(s)
