"Avatar Influence"....

a majority of us fellow members use custom avatars and not the stock avatars that are supplied with RIU. so my question is, what's up with your avatar?.... is it an extension of yourself?.... does it have an inner meaning to yourself that you are trying to project to others?..... is it just some random picture you found on the web and thought it was cool?.... is it a picture that has personal ties to you?....are you just an avatar whore and switch it up every other week?....what made you decide on your avatar pic and why.

also, when you see other fellow members avatars, what does it make you think? like do you judge someone on their avatar? does some members avatar just make you cringe?.... or does it make you all happy inside?.... does it cross your mind when another user changes their avatar?...or do you not even notice?....does a persons avatar influence the way you think about that person?

discuss..... bongsmilie

Absolutely. Some folks have avatars that are simply ugly or otherwise shocking, and I have to work past that sometimes. Others change their avatars fairly often, and it' brings on a slightly dizzying "Sibyl" sensation in yours truly.

My avatar began as my seeing it and thinking "cool!". It has since taken on a life of its own, and fed into my online persona. cn

when i was a wee lad i used to skate board, and when i was in my teens, one of the big co's was called powell peralta.. they had this one image they used for a lot of their stuff, called the ripper.. just a skeleton that was ripping out of the bottom of the boards.. it was hugely popular when i was a teen..
a few years ago this book came out which had artists do their own take on the famous ripper logo, and the jack nickolson shining one was one of my faves in the book, and i love the shining movie as well.. it was an easy choice from that point..

i also hate when people change up their avi's all the time.. it's something i recognize before i even look at the name of the poster.. i agree w cannabineer, it can get dizzying when someone often changes up their avi's imo...

A few weeks ago Chesus in Paulitics heisted Doer's avi, and then proceeded to have a quarrel with him. I was completely fished in and thought Doer had gone off the deep(er?) end and begun having a knock-down drag-out with himself. Admin stepped in. cn

My avatar is the Linux mascot "Tux" gettting high. I made it myself. I use it because I like Linux and I like getting high. I haven't changed it and probably never will.

I also concur on the changing of the avatars. I use it to recognize someone's post and to make a quick shallow judgement on them. If CN or RB were to change their avatars my world would probably collapse. lol.

I imagine most people look at mine and think I like penguins alot. Which is ok. Because penguins are cool. For a bird that can't fly. :eyesmoke:

Mine represents the long history I have with electronic music and the raves that are associated with it. I was a hardcore raver for a very long time, hanging out in the warehouse district of Detroit, and many other big cities around the midwest. When I discovered the scene, it changed my life forever. I made an entirely new group of friends, and made a whole new life. I even met my wife at a rave, through that group of new friends.

Its funny because people see dancing smilies and assume I'm a happy go lucky guy, but that isn't even close to my personality, except for when I'm on E, which doesn't happen anymore. I just smile to myself when I think about my life before marriage, kids, and getting a little older.

I have never seen an avatar take on a life of its own like the Bears' though, thats just amazing.

Cool thread!

Ok, about my avatar. Yes it's me. I've had a couple of PM's about it. There was method behind the madness. Heard of a free MJ newspaper called Soft Secrets? They hold a 'foto del mes' to win free Dinafem seeds so as I used to model (rewind a few years) I thought it'd be a good laugh. A friend also took part but I'm not allowed to show her pics!! The Foreign Fairy eh? Well I've been an expat for over 7 yrs. I think La Hada has developed quite a dirty fairy persona since joining.

As for other peoples avatars, I don't judge people by theirs unless they're in poor taste and then I just think 'warped
humor'. I can think of a couple I don't like but as they appear to be ghost accounts I ignore them!

I feel bad for changing mine after you guys mention it as a recognizable trademark.

The Red mushrooms I stumbled upon while attempting my first gorilla grow.
I grew up in those woods my whole life but it worked out that the one time I'm back there with a good camera I saw these crazy little buggers. If I wasn't back there for the reasons I was, I would have gotten better pictures.
Later down the road I had to sell the camera to help support my first indoor grow, so I cherish the pictures I got to take with it.
Still waiting to buy another.

I'm a big video game geek and one of the first games I ever played was Gauntlet. The characters have names but the game would call them by their class/race "Blue Wizard needs food badly" "Green Elf is about to die". When I was thinking up a name I had been playing gauntlet dark legacy, that's where I got the name from.
