Autopot & soil / roots organic original question

My friend recently bought an autopot smart pot system and I’m trying to figure out the easiest way for him to grow. I currently grow with a super soil mix that I add in the bottom half of my pots and use roots organic original soil. I rarely have to add anything throughout the grow so I’m thinking this might work out for him. Would this work with the autopot? I’ve never grown with an autopot system so I’m unsure if it will work with soil. If it will work do I need to put perlite in the bottom of the pots for him or do anything special while filling the pots? Any help is appreciated, thanks!

Dooood! Its going to work out amazing. All I use is organic soil and autopots. Organic soil NEEDS to moist almost constantly. In the 6 years I have been using autopots I have has zero equipment failures, no major (and almost no minor) grow problems related to feedings and watering.

That's great to hear. I am trying out the XL 4 pot system for the first time. Auto flowers in auto pots.
For the soil, my base mix with added EWC and a few other amendments. My soil seems too heavy for the Auto pot user recommendations. I added about 30% perlite to the mix. I screw up with under/over watering so, I hope this eliminates that problem. I just started germination today so there is plenty of time to change the soil. Any advice from somebody doing this successfully for so long would be appreciated.

How did it work out for you? Would you change anything that you did? Would you buy more pots for more or other types of plants?

do you have the newer bigger lines?
The smaller ones will clog with organics...as long as you make sure the ports are clear once a week....its ok.

The new bigger lines are supposed to address it.

I believe it came with the bigger lines. Yes they must have changed the packing.
gwheels, could you join me in my thread "XL Auto Pots Grow"
Cantbuymeloveu please join in too. ( I don't want to hijack someone else's thread)
I would rather hear from people who have been using these successfully rather than people who think they suck.
I'm trying to start off on the right foot and save some trial and error. (time and money too)
I'm starting seedling in solo cups and will transplant as usual.
I think direct sowing could be a lot harder but may be worth it.
What are your thoughts?

Are you putting something in the resevoir besides water? Is that how you feed? I'm not sure why the lines should get clogged at all but I guess they do. I try to start with a soil mix that lasts for 90 days and I do very little feeding. KNO3 in clean water once in a while. Thats it.
Can you just top water in nutes once in a while. Maybe shut the thing down for a day or two.
This will take some trial and error but at least I'm getting some good info to start out. Thanks.

As specifed by autopot...better to use a diferent substrate.

On my old line systems i use a heavy perlite mix like coco perlite 5050 with 1 inch of hydroton...sterile res and megacrop 2 part salts.

Soils back leach into funk....without bennies or sterile i had nothing but trouble and i own a pool so pool shock sterile is essentially free
