Auto trimming VS hand trimming

I know auto trimmers are unpopular, trust me, I see why. Sadly I don't have the time to trim a pound before it gets too dry in my dry room (60% humidity, 60F). I work 2 jobs, if I didn't id do it all by hand, cure it, and press half it n dab through out the day but life just isn't that simple for me at the moment. Soooo... does anyone have suggestions for a cheap bullet proof auto trimmer? Honestly anything sounds like a better plan than letting half my harvest get too dry. I do a half n half of top shelf genetics and half normal grade. Half are In house, oni, etc and half are retro strains for medical grade (predictable strains). My next harvest in a month is gonna be retro medical so I'm no too worried about the trim quality but I wanna try to perfect it for the next top shelf harvest. I know theres auto trimmers for $1000+ but if theres one that does a couple grams at a time for a fraction of the cost and it would be quicker than hand trimming ill go for it.

I hear you! Do it. You lose some smoke but your time is worth it. Don’t laugh. Check the Vivosun on Amazon.

Have you thought about wet trimming some and dry trimming some as you get time?
Yes! Thank you for mentioning that. I forgot to say, I start trimming on day 7 of dry, to prevent buds from losing shape, and usually finish by day 14 hence why my dry room is so cold. I start with the crunchier buds and finish with the more small wet ones. Trim usually just flakes off with a simple hand trimmer swiping through it dry but this top shelf harvest I'm going through is on day 15 and is still a bit hard to trim with out man handling the buds too much. I'm only half way though this current harvest (17 ozs ish total) and its a day over due. The time I usually have is about a 3rd what it once was. Hell I'm car pooling to work with a buddy, this prolly the only time I have to post today.

If you have your rh probe inside you hang lines you should be going in to tight sealed storage tubs at 61-59 percent rh. Crack those tubs once a day and you could trim it as you wish or on weekends or whatever. If it was just you haircutting you could do 10 units a month that way easy.

I use a 19" one of these...

It trims 4oz in under a minute. Wet or dry. (I prefer wet, not as hard on the trics.)
It does a decent enough job, and I don't spend days trimming. (1lb plants take a while...)

Ill prolly buy one of those. I saw em and questioned the quality of the trim job but that seems really good for the price

For me to buy one it's around £200 would you say it's worth that with the job it makes?

For anyone in the USA here's a 2nd hand one for cheap.

I think it's definitely worth it.
My time is the most valuable thing there is to me.
With the trimmer, I spend about 4 hours every other week on harvesting and trimming.
Without it, it would be closer to 16hrs.
After I get the buds harvested from the plant, I can be in and out of my trim room within 20 minutes with 1lb of completely trimmed nugs.
To me, that's priceless.

Thanks very much for the feedback, I didn't know of its existence but I'm adding one to my shortlist to look out for.

Just ordered the 19" one. Didn't know if it was a good option till I saw the results. I'll for sure use em for normal buds till i know how well it works. Don't wanna fuck up my top shelf yet haha. Thanks for the responses and help everyone!

Good choice.
I would definitely recommend wet trimming with it.

I use a similar bowl style trimmer, but only on my larf/popcorn. Anything from the middle to top of the plant gets hand trimmed.
thats crazy. an experienced grower like you gets popcorn and larf buds? shame. maybe if you spent less time blasting other peoples grows youd have time to trim out that larf

you left yourself wide open i couldnt help it

Yeah, it's crazy. I get almost a full ounce or two, I mean fuck man, sometimes even 3 ounces of larf per harvest. I know - I really need to step up my game, seeing as how I'm getting a couple ounces for every 4 to 5 pounds that I pull.

You got me, ace.

So if you are having a hard time getting to it all before it is too dry why not harvest in sections? Chopping mains and trimming while allowing less developed lower stuff to keep going until you can get to it? Just a thought.

I'm with Smoke on the bowl trimmer. I used to have a hand cranked one and that was, but now I have a motorized one and it's awesome!!!

The nice thing about these bowl trimmers is the smell stays in the bowl, so it really cuts down on odors.

The motorized one is quieter, easier to use and it literally sits there trimming your buds while you're prepping for the next batch. Big time saver.

I replaced the wire blade in mine with the solid blades that came with my hand spinner. I'd bet you can find knock-offs on ebay and alibaba.
