Aussie Growers Thread

Wow, the crowd here changes night to day and back again in no time.

I understand the frustration of regular posters who see messages about "reputable" seed sellers etc. I also understand the frustration of newbs to weed growing who are struggling to find planting material and then spam questions about seed-sellers.

I'm thinking the only reliable solution to this would be people focusing on improving what material is already here. The threads on using colloidal silver to create feminised seeds would definitely help in creating a seed-resource. Honestly, at least as far as my WA experience is concerned, it's been easier to get strains from Aussies than it has been to get them in from international breeders... I'm forced to keep mothers and take regular clones in order to sustain a varietal base from which to grow. Every pot smoker likes a bit of variety, even if they have their favs, so it's almost standard practice.

I've been lucky, that between the one order I've had come in for me and the charitable individuals who have taken pity on my, I've manage to accumulate a number of clones:

Afghan Kush, Skunk #1, Jock Horror, Jock Horror x White Rhino, Durban Poison.

Probably got enough genetic variability to last me ages. If I could get some Northern Lights #5 and maybe some White Widow in, I'd be set! Think of the crosses one could make? Sure, I'm no breeder, and certainly not expert as far as genetics are concerned, but I'd rather take control of things than rely on seeds getting past my local customs representatives...

Anyway, just some drunken musings. On the farm, bored out of my tree, and drinking my own Shiraz. No weed though... Could be worse!

1 week after the last frosts, 1 week after the last frosts..... Anyone in aussie try these strains out yet, I know it is unlikely? They seem like they would be awesome auto's for aussie outdoor conditions Super stinky and super cali-haze http://www.dope-seeds.com/auto_flowering_seeds.htm 3-4 month super autos :weed:

Hey west aussie i'm with you, although i've ordered most of my genetics online with absolute success, my 3 favourites came from local sources. I have barneys lsd, pineapple chunk and pineapple express, jack herrer, one unknown haze and my favourite of all time, k2- should interest you that this strain IS nl5 x ww, been round here almost 15 years and it's a freak of a plant. Produces 3 distinctly different buds on one plant both visually and when smoked, really does have highs, mids and lows. With talent under a 600 they can push 2lb plus per plant/light, it's tough as nails and the smoke matches anything for effect i've had so far, only thing that passes it for flavour is pineapple chunk. But as for the newb's, i was one and ordered my seeds after growing a set and just doing it, was the best way to learn and i've shared my experiences and advice dozens of times, if i can find those threads using search then so can newbs?

Yeah, that NL#5xWW sounds good. I'd love to play around with the latent genetics in that. Just do a whole bunch femmed seeds and pick the best pheno.

I agree that strain is everything, in most cases, when growing weed. But most of the genetics we have in Oz come from decent weed anyway. All you have to do is find a good pheno/smoke from one strain (could even be bagseed) and bam you're in business.

My last grow had 1 bagseed plant in it, and one of the guys I gave some to said he prefered that to the Skunk #1! It was a real indica type, and he loves a couch-lock high. It was really frosty (just a little lower yielding is all). That could be a good strain to cross something with. I never took a clone though...

There's enough genetic variability in the stocks we have in Oz already. It's up to us I think to improve upon that.

But yeah, what I hate about RIU is all the newbcake questions about shit that is ALREADY covered in STICKIES. Kills me. But I have to bite my tongue...

Hi All

New Oz (melbourne) member here bought some white russians seeds and they have arrived in oz just waiting for delivery.

Any tips on the best way to grow? I havent got a full indoor set up so we be doing half and half. I have a propagator and a few fluro lights, 125 w each. Last year was my first attempt at growing and while it didnt yeild a huge harvest i got an ok result. I germinated the seeds under lights for a few weeks then moved them to outdoors fulltime.

Should i keep my white russians under light for the whole growth or can i taken them outside after a few weeks?

Hopefully i get good results!

excited... just about to start germination on some seeds :D going to start indoors then moving my babies outside once I move (in a month or so, will finally have a private yard) so will be using CFL's until then.

Anyone else getting started this weekend?

I started on the 19th last month with a batch of seeds i had for a while. I don't know what strain but i do remember they popped out of some juicy bud a while back. So far all the babies have sprouted nicely and ready to repot today. Just waiting for the white russians to arrive, thats what i am excited about.

I have no idea what strain I am growing because my seeds were a gift so I will have to figure that out later. Got two started today :)

How did your repotting go?

nice strain , i would start nutes on the 3rd week depending on your pot size and soil.

Hey dude i just use mostly seasol and powerfeed, they get the job done and its hard to stuff up using organic. You can start light doses 3-4 weeks in.

will they be fem seeds? i wasnt sure because the hermie pollinated my females i thought they might have hermie genetics? i got no idea tho...if the seeds are ok im fking wrapped

Thats the basic idea of it but i think theres a lot more science behind it when its done professionally, think they put a bunch of females under numerous stresses to turn em hermie and once theyve found the most resilient pheno they treat it with colloidal silver to make it herm, then the pollen from that plant is used to pollinate other pure females=fem seeds.

Thats a very basic explanation.Might as well keep an eye on ur seeds for curiosities sake (remember its the seed from the females that has been pollinated by the hermie, not the seed on the hermie plant).
