Oh dear, ok so it turns out this plant is a seedling, not a clone. So ofcourse I dont want to bother to pay so much with the risk of winding up with a male. My friend agreed and said I could have it for free and reward them at a later date if it is a female.
So now I have this young plant which I was planning to put straight into my ebb and flow, using clay balls. However it is in soil eeek, is it possible to transfer from soil to clay balls, and if so how can I do it. I really didnt want to bother with pots and soil.
Your only real option is to cut it off (if it is about 6 inches big) clone it then put it in the clay balls which will take longer than ordering some kc brains afghani (or any other strain they are all $15) from dope seeds and spending $20 and getting seeds in 4 days.

i am growing 2 plants 2 weeks old now under 2 27watt daylight cfl's there still about 4" tall and arent growing very fast is this cuz i dont have enough Lumens? watts?

oh and idk how to post a new question lol im newb

Why not carefully wash the soil off and dig a hole in the clay balls and lay it in there.. It will wilt a little for a day or 2 then come back..

And they were going to charge you $80 bucks for a seedling and they dont even know if its female????
So you could have spent time growing a male and throwing the money away.. some friends you got there.

Thats plenty of light, are they seedlings or clones? a single globe puts of about 1500 lumens which is enough for a plant up to about 8 inches, you can scrog them around the globe and they'll grow better.

This rarely ever works, at least in my own and almost everyones journals I have read. dunno why cutting them off and cloning seems to work better.

yeah i done that on my first ever attept at cloning

got a plant is soil stuck it in a buck of water washed all the dirt off then transplanted if it's still small whats the problem?

Masterhemp I dont know the strain yet, I'll be calling my friend again tonight and hopefully she can tell me more then. And a month for seeds to arrive, that must have been an anxious wait, looks like I will probably have the same wait if not more on my first order.
I had my hands full at the time so i wasn't in a rush to get them, but if i was waiting on them to get started on my first grow i would have been fustrated lol

I thought that, but worried about the clayballs possibly killing the roots.

Im not worried about my friend, she has been my best friend for over 20 yrs, I trust her with my life, the only difference with us is I smoke weed, she doesn't, and doesn't know much about it, she got the plant for me from someone else.

I just added a few photos to show the plant, and the tent im using, I guess I could find the room (not generously though) if I have to grow it in a pot.

But for a plant this size, how high should the light be atm, im using 400w HPS.

hey hoochy whats this contactor thing your talking about?

I run my inline fan and HID on a single mech timer from a LEAST a decade ago and still going strong :) BUTTTTT its only time till it fucks up so better look into your little contact thing.

On a side note, my water pump fucked up the other day (and in doing so flooded my grow room) so i took it apart to see what was wrong. In doing so i fixed it but i also saw how it works. My god its a clever idea. Being a submersible you can't get the electronics wet so instead the prop shaft is housed in an electromagnet housing and the electronics are on the outside of this house but in a concealed area. I donno to me its such a clever idea. Its basically using the prop shaft as the motor as its magnetic and the coil would spin around the housing causing the shaft to turn.......Simple yet so cool imho lol.
.
A contactor is made up of a coil and contacts. effectively you can switch large amounts of currents with 12v,24v,240v,415v supplies. The coil has no current thus if you used a timer to switch it, the coil would draw all of 100mA. The coil acts as a magnet and pulls the contactor in. The contactor acts as a switch, but can switch large amounts of current from 1kw to 20kw or even more. By doing this, all your control circuits are doing is controlling the coil thus putting less load and strain on your control circuits and hence why you would then see much longer life out of these items.

Water pumps are as basic as they come and as you have pulled it apart, it become quite clear how it works. The problem with water pumps in hydroponics is that nutrients build up between the shaft and the surrounding magnet thus locking the shaft in one position. What most people don't understand about water pumps is that they need to be maintained just like anything else in your system would, and cleaning of this shaft and it's magnet are required to keep it running efficiently. By doing this you prevent less floods and problems with your crop.

I hope this helps :D

If I don't reply to a question it's because I just can't visit the page as often as I'd like and so I might miss it. If it's urgent then send me a PM

oooo i played with relay switches for electronics before and sounds like this is just a MASSIVE version of that. I saw one on discoutn hydro and they are quite pricey!!!!

As for the pump, yer i know you gotta wash it out and look after it, but being the dumbass i am i didnt quite make my system well enough to maintain as regularly as i should lol.

Also as for clones/seeds etc, probably not the best place to openly talk about it but if anyone is in the Sydney area ill be more than happy to GIVE seeds and clones if i have spares :)

Buying electrical shit from hydroponic stores is bound to get you ripped off. Buy from an electrical wholesaler and you can cut the price in half. I can get a contactor for about $10 :p

ok here are some pics for you guys

built this out of old shit i had laying round will add as i go

it's crude i know but im not working at the momment so budget is tight

it's just a 400watt with large shade and 4, 300mm pots with 90% coco 10% perlite or something like that. the seedlings are seedsman, feminized white widow.

also just oorderd some 150m 240watt fans i think they are

it leaks a lilttle light but the shed is pretty dark even during the day when the door is shut

gonna duct tape up what i can not sure if i should add another layer of panda fil or not

Light leaking out of your tent is no problem except for any security issues, as long as the shed is dark and light cannot leak into the tent and shine on your plants during the lights-off time.

nah mate the shed it's self is dark as but i got reflective tape ont the way gotta re do everything i taped anyway i just got in there with shower power mould killer and disenfictant
an scrubbed everything should kill any mould might give it a spary with surface spary.

are we talking any light or like direct sunlight?

hey nice looking setup ozgirl,

each of those pots got a pump an flood and drain or u got a seperate res?

Yeah, its a seperate res on the bottom, and the tray with the bed of clay balls sits on top so its a lid aswell, it has a submersible pump which pumps the water up through one connection, then another thingy, which you can just see the black circle in the pic,at the top of the clayballs, is an overflow thing, so when the water reaches that height it sets to drain. If you understand what I mean. I bought them at my local hydro store. I took the pics at night so its hard to see it properly.

I see from your pics your growing in a shed like me, your set up looks great for working with what you got. I wish I could think up stuff like that, and save myself some money.

yeah im hopeless at building it's dodgy but no money makes u think.

if i get a good yeild off this one will buy a proper tent i just gotta add fans and ducting an im set so for this set up prolly $200 cause i already had light ballast

just gotta get some bloom/flower nutrients i got canna veg frm an old grow just use that

hydroponics aint cheap cost me like 70 bucks for pots an coco lol.
should of got all off ebay but i already started my beans i was a bit hasty so had to set everything up

that tent is way betta than what i had im thinking of hanging another bit of panda film off the front with velcro strips then still leave that black piece there just to for secruity an stop light leakage

dunno how you guys grow in other states with a shed like mine hot as in my shed and it's not that hot here sun is out though
im gonna have my light out from 12pm to 6pm and on after that see if that keeps heat down a bit while i wait for my fans.

anyone got any advice for bloom nutes?
i seen odlaw used just superthrive and cyco nutes on that ice kush an had amazing results.

yeah my first ever attemt at hydro ponics was like ur setup ozgirl but only one of those tubs

was a cool setup but i was a noob lol.
hope u go betta than i did. yeah i think that thingy is an overflow pipe ozgirl lol.

you wanna be careful what chemicals you use to clean with jzs147 some of them leave a residual that can poison ya plants thats why i suggested white vinegar and water
