Atomic Haze, LST flower & topped veg

First, thanks to everyone here that has given me some great advice, its much appreciated. This is my first grow, and its still far from done. (check signature for flowering thread w/ cabinet pics)

I got 1 plant in flower on day 32 (after 30 days veg) in pics 1-2, that I think I left in a half gallon pot too long because its pretty small. She's in a 2.75 gallon pot now, transplanted after 30 days in flower (I know, not a good idea, but she wasn't terribly root bound) and still very green -- I have yet to feed her anything. Under a 150w HPS, top leaves are within a foot of the bulb, which is in a cool tube. The veg (pics 3-4) is under its own 105w 6500k cfl for 18/6. Its been growing really strong, and I chopped the top 3 (+ developing) nodes, so I'm hoping for 4 tops, but lets see.

The strain is a haze, which I'm trying to do with a 150w HPS, so I'm wondering if it is slow / small because of that. Temps have been in the mid-high 80s, within 6 inches of the cool tube. I'm really trying to blast it with the 150 as much as possible. Intake could be better, but humidity stays around 30%.

Any thoughts or relevant conversation are welcome.

I just got a new lens, so I gave it a whirl here:

After getting some 150w ballast parts for about $35, I picked up a computer power supply box for $15, which could be done for cheaper, but it already had a fan built in, and was a clean metal box, so I picked it up, because it looks good and is easy to work with. After ripping out the computer guts, I was able to fit in the ballast, ignitor, and capacitor pretty easily. I had to do the wiring 2 different ways before fit inside well. The ballast is in front of the fan and sits on bolts for feet, so it is separated from the box.

A male cord goes to the outlet, and a female cord goes to the HPS bulb, which I wired to a male plug. The capacitor and igniter are tied to the box mounts for computer guts, to keep them off of the ballast.

If any electricians see problems with this, please let me know, but I think its all good. Total cost = $50.

Well, my new ballast box fires up my hps fine, runs for about 10 mins, then shuts off, and does it all over again. My wires are connected according to the diagram, and I read some other threads on wiring ballasts, and it seems to be all good.

Has anyone else had this statup-shutdown-startup problem?

Hey saw ur post and was wondering if u cld help me out..my friend has a 125 watt cfl and has a few babies about 4 inches tall and is going to be transplanting also waas wondering if anyone knows if 50-60 % humidity regularly is too high and what to do

my girl seems to be looking pretty healthy, although a bit more petite than I was imagining. I think that keeping her in a half gallon pot up to 30 days into flower was not the best idea. I just nuted yesterday for the first time, at 25%, with P heavy solution.

she seems to be doing well for a standard LST, and each of the buds have a front-row seat right in front of the 150w HPS cool tube, which is usually about 3-4 inches away. I'm hoping that each of these buds grows into a semi-cola, although the main cola is much larger as of now.

Any thoughts on how well these other buds should develop, if I can keep them right in front of the hps? Does this girl look small to you? (she is a bit over 10 inches wide right now)

appreciated.

Here is a pic showing how I am keeping my girl under the 150w HPS, and one showing the overall plant, which is noticeably bushier almost day to day. I have a wireless temp/humidity sensor nearby (my favorite investment so far), and thanks to some cooler nights, I've been able to lower the lights just a bit more, and keep under 80˚. I think I'm doing all I can to really maximize this hps. Judging from leaf color, the nutes seem to be in check.

I'd still like to hear any opinions on the bud development, at 43 days into flower.
I know sativas take a bit longer, and hazes take even longer.

Also, the humidity is running 60-65% with lights on, and up to 80% w/ lights off (with only exhaust fans running, not circulation fans).

Looks good to me. New growth has a great color. That's the key to me. Fat colas will follow. That looks like less of a sativa than my Has Plant x Haze. The next week is fun as they Poof some white hairs.

Yah, I'm looking forward to the poofing! [theres one for all the UK riu'ers] Well, this is Doctor Atomic's strain, which is "Northern Lights crossed with the worlds best sativas" so maybe thats why its looking a little indica-y to ya. (to me, it just looks pretty and green, as its my first grow)

the tension is mounting...

Some updated pics here of the LST plant. It has 5 large shoots including the main cola. The secondary shoots have stretched quite a bit in the past week, which seems kind of late for stretching. Main cola is getting fat at the base, and is pretty filled in, i'm hoping these other arms fill in well too - - any thoughts on that from experienced growers?

I have clipped off a lot of fan leaves that were hanging over the lower buds, probably about 30% of them. It was getting way too thick in there. They seem to have quite a bit of time left, but I'm hoping to harvest the main cola first and let the other ones fill out.

The topped plant in veg was moved to flower and is luckily a female. She is doing really well - see the 3rd pic. I want to LST each cola around the edge of the pot, in opposite directions, going for a circle shape. I love LST'n... on some Mr. Miagi bonsai tree-shit

Ok, I cut both of them down last night (pics to come) after a battle against an unknown problem that didn't subside (pics and descriptions here: https://www.rollitup.org/marijuana-plant-problems/385751-yellow-leaves-starting-tips-lots.html).

Both plants had the problem at about the same time. After I harvested, I pulled each plant out of the pot, and neither of them had really grown beyond the pot-space that they had been transplanted from - not even coming close to filling up the end 2.5 gallon pot). I'm beginning to think this had something to do with the problems of yellowing leaves and super light sensitivity.

In the end, the older plant gave me some buds that I don't believe are very dense, but I'll get some pictures up and you all can be the judges of that. I have put a lot of work into this new cabinet and I really want to make it perfect, so I'm hoping to learn exactly what the problem was and correct it. The problems didn't begin until they had been put into the new cabinet, which was actually much more efficient (in spreading the light as well as moving air).

Any thoughts on the problems with the roots not spreading out?

The turnout wasn't as good as I had hoped, but it happened, at least. It seemed to take forever, but also this Haze strain isn't supposed to be grown under a 150w hps.

Here are pics of the flowering process:
Flowering.jpg

When I pulled the plant out of the pot, the roots hadn't really grown past the previous pot size, and it was kind of small, but dense.

and the take...
DSC_0093.jpg

I was hoping all of them would have the same density as the main cola. They are a little fluffy I think.

I'm thinking of moving to a 400w for the next grow, and using seeds more suited for indoors.

Thoughts?

Looks good to me. Those damn heavy Sativa strains seem to take forever. For a 150W HPS I think you did good. Now you know some changes to make it'll only get stickier & smellier on the next one. :leaf:

Thanks! Yah i cant wait for the next one. Im going to order some new seeds, so any recommendations for a 150w setup would be great!

Ive been smoking the popcorn buds, and the high is nice, although its making the back of my throat real dry and sore at times, like when i wake up (un cured bud syndrome? Hah)

The buds are very airy, unfortunately, because a lot of the cotlydons (er whatever) didnt really swell so much. But dr. Atomic (who graciously answered my emails) said the 150w hps doesnt come close to packing the punch they needed.
They arent fully cured, but im getting some hints of the smell, which is beautiful-- a bit fruity
