At what temperature does it FROST?

On weather.com it says that next week it may get to as low as 43 degrees during the night. I live in northern Illinois. Is this temperature too cold that my plants will die. My plants are also located near a lake so I am afriad this might make the air a little cooler also.

Water begins to freeze at 39 degrees and is frozen at 32. 39 is the frost point but many other factors determine potential damage like humidity and wind and number of hours at that temp. I wouldn't be comfortable with 43 but it's much better than 39.

If it is clear out no clouds & heavy dew the frost will be more of a killing one.
Thanks, Farmer Johnny! What about if the owl hoots and the wooly bear has more brown than white, huh? What then, huh, huh?
