Astir Grow Led Panel Project...

Just thought these were really "cool." Expensive, but cool. I know it's dumb, you can get an "Astir"-type heat sink for much cheaper and achieve the same results, but...

For 50W'ers these can perform passive, for 100W'ers you'll need a fan.

I found one for $10 free shipping and couldn't pass it up. Dunno if I wanna pair it with a 50W Blue chip + 2700K ChromaLit remote phosphor, or a custom spectrum 440nm/460nm 2395K Warm White + 630nm/660nm 100W chip. I've got enough stuff to make three Astir-type panels (about 30W each, I believe, less WW/NW more 630nm/660nm) so one could go to sustaining a mother while the other two and the hypothetical 50W-100W chip could be in the other tent for 12-12 action.

.62W/$1 for the 50W remote phosphor, .74W/$1 for the custom 100W (before fan and DC PSU), .81W/$1 for a 100W remote phosphor (before fan and DC PSU). Leaning towards custom spectrum 100W, but then again 1.43W/$1 for a standard 100W Warm White chip is pretty crazy.

Why not use multi chip LED's? More lumens/cm^2 which is especially useful when Red phosphor (and PolarKote, I guess) is so expensive. You can have custom 50W LED chips made relatively cheaply with, say, 4 x 380nm, 23 x 440nm, and 23 x 460nm. You could even throw some 660nm's in there, the phosphor lens shouldn't hurt their efficiency too much.
...In fact the whole panel of 24 leds becomes a "multi-chip -24 pcs - " huge led ....
Nice idea ,with the added reds underneath rem.phosp. screen ...

This is a cpu copper heatsink ....
Great for high-wattage multi-chip leds ...(But for sure with a combination with a fan )

Copper can not be extruded (in liquid form (melting hot ) to go through a "profile" and while cooling down to become a profiled rail / bar )
Copper heat sinks work that way :
Copper solid base collects ( conducts ) heat from led array slug ....
Copper heatpipes transfer heat to copper fins ...
Copper fins are not so good like alum fins to radiate / dissipate heat into air ...
(that's why you usually see copper core with alum fins ...)
Copper fins can not work passive very efficiently ...They need a fan ....

Have done a bit of "homework" on that one ....
See what I've used
(sitting on top of an alum heatsink ...
Weight:.. alum = 4 lbs .... Copper = 2 lbs..)...

P1095840.JPG

This 100% copper heatsink has 6 heat pipes (3 on each side of base )
Over the part that heatpipes attach to base has a small -machined /milled from solid copper block -copper heatsink ...
Heatpipes transfer heat to many thin copper fins closely packed together...
A high speed fan is needed there ,to fiercely move air ,between the fins ...

4th day of 10th flowering week ...
Buds are swelling pretty good ..

Some purple hues are also showing up ....

Well ...This plant is way better than the other was ...

(the indica dom one .....
Which gave only 21 grams of fluffy and not totally dried buds ....
Really a mere yield .....-Ok ,of really good quality ,though ...
I do not think that it would have gained much more mass ,if I had let it be....
From start ,she was a troubled young lady ....)

Cheers ....

Guod ,I think -not sure though- that this lights are of 8 arrays x 80 Watts each array ...640 Watts total ...
I think ..
BTW ,that light in the vid, is jaw-dropping .....
Why there aren't any lights for us ,like that ?
I was trying to respond after watching the medical led video, but RIU went down. Simple one button push to change the diodes from CW> NW>WW. Awesome

^ Well depending on the size of the dome, but I am talking about the small chips mounted directly to the dome, instead of chips mounted on a flat plane, thereby curving the light projection. I would guesstimate a 30% increase in footprint

I think Astir panels are small enough to negate the need for the slight doming effect. Also, larger panels seem to be migrating towards the "module" approach like Apollo. Just my thought on the subject.

nitride phosphors.JPG

Very promising ...
Brilliant,in fact ....

For now ,we can settle with the Warm Whites ,those made
by a mix of red nitride and green Aluminate / Silicate phosphors ....
(High CRI Warm Whites , > 85%, 2500-2700 °K )

Phosphor range.....

Peaks
:
Silicates: 507 - 610 nm
Aluminates: 515 - 560 nm
Yttrium-Aluminium Garnets: 545 - 564 nm
Nitrides: 620 - 670 nm

phosphors.jpg

Old type Warm White :
Blue chip of 455-470 nm with heavy load of broad-peak YAG yellow phosphor.
( phosphor emission peak at 570-590 nm. )

New tech Warm Whites :
Blue chip of 455-470 nm with less load than previous case ,
of blended red nitride & green silicate/aluminate phosphors .
(...phosphor emission peak 610-650 nm ,depending on led ...)

Now ...

Another idea ....

A grow-box ...

Big grow box ...

Size of 3' x 3' x 6 ' ( 1 x 1 x 2 m ) ....

Outside made of Inox / Plastic / Wood ....

Inside, the "growth chamber " ,is a box made of thin (2mm max )Polycarbonate sheet or Plexiglass screens ...Phosphor doped ...
The base only(where pot holes are ) is covered with reflective material .....
Underneath box the pots or Hydro aero system ..

All around, outside "growth chamber " (except base ) are small led panels with (UV /Violet &) blue chips .....
Say 300 Watts total ...
Easy to control which will be off and which on ...Light up the screens ,where is needed ....Or at max ....
Can have dimming control & timer , to simulate morning/evening effects ...
Can also simulate " East(rise) -Zenith-West (set ) " light power orientation .....
And possibly more ...
3D growth light

No ..Shit ..We need mixing chambers .....

Ok ..this ...Screens are tightly wrapped around with blue/uv/violet led strips ....
(in totally controlled channels)
Mylar sheet then covers the screens/strips .Reflective side facing screens ...
Here you are.... Simple ... :-P ....

....
Also at same space sit fans for air circulating to cool led heatsinks ,air extractor ,act.carbon filter, cables ,ect....

grow box.jpg

Just a rough idea .....

Phosphor doped PET film (30um or something silly thin like that). Insane idea. Just shrink wrap the panel. ><

It's a very cool idea, but you lose all ability to change panel height.

No....Imagine this ......
Outside led tech ......

Plastic -phosphor doped - PET sheets / films for greenhouse use .....

Turn winter's "cool" sunlight ,into "summerish " warmer .....
Change Natural Sunlight's Spectrum .....During Winter ....
(Blue Wavelengths of Sunlight =>turned into red light ..... )
...

Nehhhh...Stoney idea ....

It happened the same when vegging with CFLs, that often are very bluish. When I used them, I noticed I got better growth rates without more strectchig using 1 6500K and 1 2700K instead of using 2 6500K.

For blooming, bluish spectrum works very well too. Cannabis prefers a little reddish spectrum of bloom (actually, very reddish spectrums) over blueish one, but its not good to exaggerate it. It does well with more blue too. Attending to yield, clearly reddish spectrums produces more, probably because there is more photons (for same energy emitted, it hold more photons as longer is their wavelength). But using more blue affect quality of end product. As its very subjective, some people prefer to use blueish spectrum on bloom or some stages of it, and others not.

But what is true is reddish spectrums usually produces more in bloom.

Shit ....

Ahaaaaaa!!!!!!!
That's why my dog is talking back to me ,
since I had the 3rd joint,of my bluish-spectrum-led-grown-weed ...

F@(K....
...it's just only 20 grams ....

More Warm whites next time ...

I kind of feel that by the time your last plant is down ... the one you are smoking will be gone already :D

My thought was you could use fewer leds, but you could be right
