Area 51 SGS-160 Grow, DR60, 2 plant scrog

Welcome to my first grow log (2nd grow). I've decided to make a grow log to hopefully entertain some people, but also to receive advice from experienced growers. My previous grow was kinda just to dip my toes into cultivation and see what it was like. I grew a small White Widow from Bulldog (not good genetics), had plenty of beginner's mistakes, and most importantly learned from it all. This time I'm back and am ready to raise the bar.

Chamber: Secret Jardin DarkRoom 60 2'x2'x4.6' (60cm x60cm x140cm)View attachment 2899096(sorry for it being sideways)

Lighting: I'm ordering my Area 51 XGS190 tomorrow, and that will take some time for it to reach me. I will be runnig the xgs190 at 130w function I have already started the grow, so I will be continuing to use my Secret JArdin Tneon 2x75w ( Like this but 2x75w http://secretjardin.com/en/secretjardin-lighting/tneon-secretjardin.html) Don't love these lights, but I'll have to use them until I get the Area 51.

Strains: View attachment 2899098 the left is Holy Grail Kush (DNA Genetics), which germinated a little before the right one.
the right is another story. I was germinating different seeds and then forgot which i stuck in that cup, because there were originally 3 cups. The right one most likely Hawaiian Snow (Greenhouse), and if it's not that, it is Pineapple Express (DNA). Since HS is a heavy sativa, after some time we'll be able to tell which strain it is. If it is indeed the sativa, i will most definately have to train it to stay as short possible.

Grow Medium: Coco coir + perlite (about 70% coco 30% perlite)

Nutrients: View attachment 2899097 So far this is what I plan on using. Pacha Mama Grow and Bloom (Organic), Rootbastic, and Bud Candy for early flowering. I'm probably going to be ordering some Calcium+Magnesium since I am going coco. Recommendations are welcome, since I'm fairly new to growing, and especially coco.

Containers: they are currently seedlings in little cups (Actually old plastic pill bottles with drainage holes cut in), but once ready i will transplant them into 11L pots (just under 3gal)

Ventilation: I have an intake and exhaust which are cheap inline fans which run about 105cfm. They don't do much, but a little is better than nothing, i think =P I also have a homemade carbon filter ( aluminum can with holes, inside a panty hose, which contains come active carbon). Also i have a little homemade CO2 generator from yeast and sugar. Not sure if it works amazing, but it was cheap and easy to make, and I don't think it can do any harm.

Light Schedule: Currently in a 18:6 photoperiod. I plan to veg for about 6 weeks, or however long it takes to "fill" my screen. Then it will be 12:12 obviously for flowering. The Holy Grail Kush has an average flowering time of 9 weeks, and Hawaiian snow has to flower for much longer, about 11 weeks. So I plan to harvest the HGK once milky, and let the other flower out.

So yeah, its just starting out now, and I'm excited for this grow. My goal yield is 100g, just because...=P
Sorry to disappoint you guys that it's not starting with LED, but once i receive my light, it will be immediately installed.

So for anyone who will be interested enough to follow along, or just stop by momentarily, I'm completely open to hear your opinions, recommendations, or comments.

Good luck with your grow! I'll be following along, and posting my own similar grow journal very soon. It will be my first grow, I already received my XGS-190, but am not quite ready to use it. Hopefully I'm up and running by the end of December. School is killing me. Your attachments are not working for some reason fyi, not sure if its just on my end or what. Would love to see the pics though. Happy growing!

Alright, so here they are under the light. I have it really close now and they seem to like it better, because they were growing really slow before. Before, I actually saw no active growth in the small one.

Here is the bigger 2 week old. I find her a little small, with no visable stretching. Something weird (for me) is that she is already producing some odor. She literally smells the same of more then my first grow did while flowering.

Here she is right before i topped her.
and after.
Here is the 1 week old (either Pineapple Express or Hawaiian Snow, currently still a mystery). She seemed to be really stunted before i put the lights closer, and now I notice bigger changes in her growth.

Here you can see some problem she has/had, im not quite sure what it is, I checked the marijuana problems by picture on growweedseasy, but i couldn't find a similar picture.

Was that the only brown spot on the one leaf there? To me it looks more like a burn mark from the light or a splash of water/nutrients. I wouldn't worry about it unless there's more or it keeps happening. Can't wait to see the xgs in use.

Put some aeration holes in your containers. A cheap soldering iron works great for plastic.

Yeah thats the only spot. It is on its first serrated leaf. The first node is light in color and curls a little bit up, but the new growth is darker and doesnt curl up.

I had made drainage holes, but you mean to make aeration holes throughout the container like the airpots? I assume that would then increase the oxygen recieved by the roots?

I hate that nute burn. When i was a total noob starting out I had no idea how to feed the plants so instead of just pouring the mixture right into the soil I dumped it all over the plant and soil. Big mistake! Live & learn I guess!

XGS-190 Arrived this morning!

Here's what my tent looks like now with the XGS in it. I transplanted a few days back to 3Gal buckets.

So its now about 4 weeks for the Holy Grail Kush. I find her to be pretty tiny for so long, maybe it was the light being too close, too far, im not sure. I know topping her temporarily stunts growth, but I'm sure something is up. maybe she was a little root bound in her original container. I really hope her growth increases in her new pot and with the XGS.

Here is her up close. After i fimmed her, her new tops came in, the sides are normal, while the center ones are really funky.

Here is the other, now three weeks. I'm pretty sure it is the Hawaiian Snow from the look of the leaves and the bigger inter-nodal spacing. Height wise she is almost the same as the HGK, but with less nodes. She's not topped yet. Her lower leaves turned strong yellow on the tips (weeks back) and curls up, i believe it was light stress.

Here she is up close.

Decided to take off the unusual heads on the HGK which seemed that they wouldnt have more growth. So now she has about 4 tops from the fim.
I was considering letting the ugly/strange head stay for 2 reasons: maybe they would create new growth, and 2, i didnt want to put the plant into shock to stunt any more growth, since she is growing pretty short. Then i thought that the plant might be wasting energy on those nodes when they might not bare any new growths, so i snipped em

Shes up and going! But ill be keeping her at 130w all the way through. Jeff said 190 would be too strong for my tent during flowering

Alright, Christmas update.
It's about week 5 for the Holy Grail Kush. She seems to be doing fine, although her new growth are a little light of color closer to the veins.

The Hawaiian Snow seems to be pretty fucked up. A couple days ago she had what seemed to be some Mg deficiency, but now im not sure what she has.
She has some twisted dead leaves, the are coming brown from all over. Also the top healthier looking leaves are starting to curl upwards on the serrated edges. Is this nute burn? I havent really upped my nutes nor had any change in ph. Only change is my tent is in a more desirable temperature range since i got my XGS, and the light is 20ish inches from the tops.

Whatcha guys think?
and Merry Christmas to all!

Are those two bottles up front a yeast and sugar water setup for co2. If so hang that damn line up above the plants. CO2 is more dense and heavy than O2. By 12g per mol, 32g O2 vs 44g CO2. It will precipitate out and require more input and ppm monitoring to build up as opposed to dispensing from a higher location.

Not familiar with your nutes, but it looks like concentration is too high- dilute.

Young plants do not have sufficient leaf structure/root structure to eat heavy meals
