Area-51 RW 75 and a Purple Trainwreck

Greetings and Salutations RIU

With all the limited Area-51 RW 75 feeds popping up, I thought I'd throw mine into the mix for some contrast, helpfulness, cluelessness, or just something pretty to look at. This is my first foray into the LED world, definitely not going to be my last. This particular strain was a freebie and is being used to test out my new tent and light setup although the lights were not always LED so this current grow thus far is only half LED. The initial light setup for those that are curious were 3 2700k PL-L 55W bulbs, used for about 75% of the veg state. Onto the logistics:

Strain: Purple Trainwreck [humboldt seed org, fem] (mendo purps x trainwreck)
Training: Mainline for 8x
Soil: Roots Organic (base) + 30% super soil
Container: 3 Gallon Oregon Breather (fabric pot)
Water: Dechlorinated tap water pH'ed to 6.5-6.7
Light: 2x Area-51 RW 75
Tent: GrowMed 4x2x4
Temperature: 74-76 F (23 C)
RH: 40%
Cooling: 2x 100 cfm exhaust fans, 1 6" internal fan
Vegetative: 60 Days
Flower: 15 Days as of 5-15-14

And just for fun, my live feed raspberry pi camera

Thanks, unfortunately the tops are not as even as I'd like, and the nodes are stacked too closely to super crop it so it's a bit wobbly. I think my bonsai wire might have been part of the blame as well. But! It's healthy so no harm, no foul.

Hah, it definitely helps with periodically checking with out having to physically go look in the tent, especially when I can see the thermometer/hydrometer.

Thanks PSU. In your opinion, is 150W not enough? I'm considering bumping the next project up to 2, 5 gallon pots and wondering if it's going to be enough light.

75's lookin nice. I should be getting a new light soon. At least getting ONE of these to throw in my 2x2. Might go bigger if i come across the extra cash. Diggin the mainlining though. Got a G13 Blue OG and a White Critical with just 4 tops going right now.

I'm really diggin' the 75's. The mainlined PT seems to dig it as well, although she seems to have trouble with her nute's, which in part i think is due to the whole LED intakes more nute's occurrence.

Hey Sev, looking good so far. You just made me think that it may not be about more or less nutes but perhaps different nute ratios and that the nute companies aren't coming up with the right stuff for LEDs which may be why you see super soil LED grows kicking ass. A good super soil recipe, + some teas, seem to give the plant everything it needs to manage itself properly. Hydro/coco seems to work but if it was so easy we'd all be doing it, right? Anyway you may want to check out the Plant Problem section at IC Mag and look at the magnesium section of "Joe's Updated Plant ...." and you may see something that helps that leaf tip curl. Good Luck and Be Safe!

Thanks for the word, FranJan. Yeah I think my super spoil that I made well over a year ago, just isn't up to snuff with the LED uptake. I had a pretty good idea it was going to happen, after watching grows here, I just didn't know when/how hard it was going to hit. I know at around 5 weeks, beginning signs of the fade are normal and expected, just not like this. So far I think my tea and small amount of liquid karma are doing the job. I lucked out and managed to find a 2 gallon bag of E.B. Stone 420 Soil, and applied about 3 cups/small top dressing as well. So plain (pH'ed) water for now, I'll dilute some epsom salts into the next application at 1/4 the recommended dose to see if that helps as well.

awesome looking plants, good job.

I would have thought that one of those little rw-75 would be perfect for each 1'x2' area in flower or 4 of them in a 3'x3'.

I think 2 rw-150's were made for a 2'x4' tent

310watts of led / 8 Square feet = 38.75 w/sf?

is this too much?

"The AT600 pulls 685w and the hps pulls 1028w." - Greengenes707

Greengenes was running a 1000w HPS and a AT600 each in their own 4'x4'
1028/16=64.25 w/sf
685/16=42.8125 w/sf

you currently have 19.375 w/sf im sure you could increase your yeild and fit more light into that area

how many Watt/Square feet is everyone else running?

edit: fixed link

Thanks. So far I just have the one plant, and 2 rw-75's seem to be pretty adequate so far. The optimal coverage is is 20"x20" per rw-75, and since I only have 8 sq ft, 2 rw-75's seem adequate for having up to 2 plants, in 5 gallon pots, as it is my understanding one rw-75 is adequate for 1 plant.

And yes, I only have 19.375 w/sq ft, which leaves me a bit perplexed, in regard to, is that enough? When the recommendations say you only need 2 rw-75's. Or is it only a small 10-20% bump in yield when you double the light to 38.75 w/sq ft ? As there is plenty of space so far to double the light.

Sev, Those look great so I know your going to be happy. As for the coverage of the rw75, on their website it states the Maximum coverage of that light is 24x24" (4 ft² 19.38w/sf), the Optimal is 20x20" (2.78 ft² 27.88/sf) and Minimum being 18x18" (2.25 ft² 34.44w/sf).

The specs for the rw150 say Maximum: 36x36" (9 ft² 17.22w/sf) Optimal: 24x30" (5 ft² 31w/sf) Minimum: 24x24" (4 ft² 38.75w/sf) so where you went with the minimum of around 20w/sf I would think you would want to be closer to 40. If I was using diy/cxa's I would run 1 per ft² at 50 watts.

Now I might me on the higher side; but I think you are probably on the lower side. I would think if you added 1 more light bringing you to 29.6 w/sf, it would directly translate to 50% more bud. Just something to think about to get optimal use out of tent in the future.

I am definitely on the lower side, and have known I was on the lower side. It's just been a question of, how low am I, and how much higher do I need to be. So I'm incredibly grateful for your and others insight.

I do think a RW-150 or XGS-190 would put me where I need to be. Now it's a question of, should I grab one of those or build a DIY panel with 3 or 4 cxa's.
