"Area 51 LED" Information and discussion

Tha'ts really close to my old setup when I was using a 600w hps in a 4x4 tent. 4 plants, vegged for 4-6 weeks, 3 gallon pots, and yielded very close to a pound. Now, I no longer use a tent, and am in hydro. I use 6" Hugo blocks, drip irrigated. I now have 6 plants in same 4x4 space, but plants are smaller in size. This will yield over a pound using 6-8 W90's. My previous run, I used a 2x3 hydro tray under two, RW-150's from Area 51. 4 plants were in that and yielded 13 oz's. LED/COB is for real man. That easily matched a 600w HPS using only half the wattage (310w).
That's cool man, yield is a lot based on genetics and grow style, I don't mind sacrificing a bit of yield for better quality ( organic > hydro everyday ) and I have a really high end hydroponic system ( water farm 8 module system with 55 gal res and controller ) but the taste I get from my organic is better than what I could get from my hydro and I tried like 5 different types of bottled nutrients (general hydro 3 part, general hydro flora series, advanced nutrients , canna, and some free nutrients I cant remember) I have a good feeding system laid out and had plants dialed in good but just never was as good as the more natural organic I run. I also ran coco to try that and it wasn't as good either :( I am always looking for a way to up yields but I cannot sacrifice quality. I also use LEDs to grow, I have 2 area 51 RW150's and a few other LEDs and I would have to disagree that you can get as much under the RW's as the 600, my 600 coverage is MUCH bigger and the light output is similar and plants can only grow so big so yea bigger coverage = bigger plant mass = bigger ganja at harvest :)

Very cool, yeah I am also a huge believer that yield has a lot to do with genetics and grow style.

I also agree that a 600w HPS has a larger coverage than two RW150's, but I did manage to yield 13 oz's from 4 clones of TGA's Ace of Spades in a 2x3 hydro tray under those RW's. The 600w would yield very close the same though, but in a 4x4 space. The only explanation that I can think of is the 4 larger plants I grew with 600w HPS in a 4x4 got a lot less light in the middle and lower part of the plants, but the 4 under the RW's were shorter (by at least 1.5') allowing the light to penetrate top, middle, and bottom. These were all the same clones, mind you.

But I must add to the story. Now under those two RW150's I have 4 plants in the same 2x3 tray and am going to yield shit. These are 4 different strains, but these plants are a lot taller than previous Ace of Spade clones from before, which were maybe 3' tall. The plants I have now in there are 4'. The RW's are not penetrating for shit with plants that tall... But now I have other strains under the W90's which are 3' tall or slightly more and look like they will yield a lot with penetration to the bottom with lights 9" from the canopy.

I saw some former post of yours talking about SGS160's. I am just curious how you would see the comparison of the RW's and the SGS's.

Just remember you only get as much yield as your space can yield, genetics will determine bud density for the most part if you give it enough light pretty much it will grow the same under LEDs as HPS and just yield more to whichever has the larger grow area. I saw a grow where a guy used like 1000 watts of COB's and got the same amount as someone using 450 watts of COB in the same area. More electrical usage and more light intensity does not equal more bud. Marijuana can only use so much light and at some point you just are wasting energy by using too much intensity in a small area. I bet if you had a 4x4 all hydro with that strain under a 600 watt you would have yielded a substantial amount more ( my thoughts are nearly double the amount because a 2x3 space is nearly half the space as a 4x4).

I hang with many old school HPS guys and once they have seen what is possible with LED,not one have them has said they are not interested . Many of them were skeptical until they saw the quality and yield.

That's cool , I am using both HPS and LEDs. I know what these things yield just from my own grow space. Please don't feed me the bullshit that LED bud is more potent...we both know better.

Has anyone been able to contact the company in a while? The lights are exactly what I'm looking for, but seem difficult to actually buy.

I got a tracking number on tuesday 10/6 and my lights (two 3k and two 5k) are on track to be delivered on monday 10/12. didn't receive any communication from them except the email with the tracking number.

Can someone make a video on showing their Area 51 light? I can't seem to find any on YouTube. I'm interested in seeing how bright these things really are.

I'm thinking about running 1 3000k W90 in a 2x2 tent do you guys think this would be efficient for flowering?
11 Par Watts/ per sq ft.....lower ppf, but there are a few on lower intensities with good results...although I would think that the corners will be dim......2 is probably better for nice even intensity across the entire 2x2
