Are too many RED HAIRS a bad thing?

I once had a brown paper shopping bag that had accumulated a couple grams of hairs in the bottom during drying. I thought this was awesome and I would smoke a big bowl of only the best part of the plant! With a little cleaning I had a nice pile of pure hairs. It was harsh as hell to smoke with no buzz after smoking a couple bowls. I tried it a couple different times with different strains and the results were the same. Hairs for the most part are harsh smoking and contain little THC. If you don't believe me try it yourself. They sure do look pretty though.

From what I understand red hairs have nothing to do with the high.

Trichomes & Pistils two different things.

Red hairs are pistils, and pistils do not contain THC.
For some reason lots of people think red hairs means better bud, and since my buds have tons of red hairs, people will pay more for it lol

Ive done the same thing with the same results.

X3 w above post they suck I rolled a bluntbw only red hairs I did not get high or a buzz I was pissed

I think it's because you can clearly see pistils on street buds, the buds that aren't beat the shit out of have more hairs, but also more trichomes and smoke better. So when someone sees a lot of pistils they equate it to potency. Maybe? Just a guess

IDK I jusat got some buds that are loose, and not dense at all BECAUSe the bud is almost entirely made up of red hairs.... it's annoying............ a bud the size of my thumb and be bunched up to the size of a dime......... all red hairs...... ALL red hairs.... like worse than the guy with the pic... there has GOT to be a reason this happens..... it's definitely NOT a good thing.

TRUE California street red-hair for over 35 year i walked the streets of California in search of mexico's finest red hair strains over the years i have acquired many top notch seeds. For the last two years i have been Dr franken-stiening California's street swag aka (dirt weed) Personally i found growing up there are many strains involved with Mexican weed what i also learned is many of the strains they grow are in need of a better growing method why? these guys grow some of the best weed on planet earth period in massive quantities when these plants are grown males are left in the mix with females, and no real care is provided to the plants to produce a better product so i tried two methods of growing one was a deep well hydroponic system using 5 gal pots i used a product called VEG+Bloom bought online it offers fast easy use for all levels of growing experiance even the beginner cant go wrong with this stuff. The second method was a mix of 420-mix plant soil, cow, manure chicken poop and local soil from our mountain top property. 5400 ft up using the same veg + Bloom nutrient and 1 lb. hydro-tone balls mixed into soil. both systems grew outdoors at our mt top property i basically actually three seasons very slowly we grew the weed like the Hindu's would have at a high cooler altitude 5400 ft up allowing the weed to grow the four seasons both systems produced some of the most powerful smoke to ever hit my lungs the kind of smoke that hit you in turtle mode and keeps creeping up on you till you in total stonedness. I turned this stuff into a super swags with a kick to the moon in every puff.

weird..i was just explaining this to my buddy today.. Are you my buddy??... Anyway yes its true that high amounts of hair can be genetic or caused by something, it is true that bud with alot of bright red hairs can be caused from high heat and in turn come out mediocre. This is my opinion from seeing two hot grows. It may tie into maturity and yours may simply be genetic. I'm positive though that there's truth to what you were told. Also to clarify on page one the hair is not the pistil it's part of the pistil with the ovary and should be called the style stamen or hair. The hair is comprised of both those parts, the three make up the pistil.

Could it be to high of an iron problem?

This topic is an old thread but why I just registered to comment... I was mistakenly under the belief that the more red hairs = the higher sativa content, but after searching for seeds, I see there are 100% indica strains that are loaded with red hair? I have 2 different precancerous conditions and I can't cough, it could mess me up for days so I try hard NOT to cough, and I know from sad and bad experience, the red hair stuff makes me cough and just gives me a repulsive taste in my mouth ;0(

I know, I know, there are some people who swear it's the best. But for me, it seems I also have to smoke too much of it to get the same effect as nice stinky crystal-laden stuff?

I do not think hairs are good... I tried to grow just once, one plant last year, and ended up topping and pruning too much & only got about 7g (lol.)
BUT, it had very little hairs and good amount of crystals. The only thing I can think of is because I did something I remember my friend (whose BF grew the best stuff I ever smoked!) used to do with his plants... He had timers and would leave work and come home to burp the jars, or whatever you call it. He kept his stuff in big old antique apothecary jars, opening/closing 2 or 3 times a day. When I cured the little 7g I got, I did the same thing plus put a humidicannt card to put in the jar, letting it slowly dry for a couple weeks before trying it and it tasted so good, whatever unknown strain the seed was...

Alternatively, I also wonder if the red hair content has anything to do with it being feminized or autoflowering strains?

According to our customers Phosphoload (red cap) causes more red hair especially with high temps versus The Original and other imitations of The OG. AC and c02 along with P Load is suppose to have less red hairs. Btw majority of our customers grow Platinum Kush.

Once the pistil has matured and dried on the plant it will fall out. It's purpose has been and gone and just like an old leaf or a dried up bud it will blow away in the breeze. Whenever you harvest will determine how far along that process is and how many "red hairs" are retained. The calix does not drop off the plant because supposedly that will house the seed and when that is mature the entire plant will die
