are these plants ready to flower yet?

I have about 9 weeks until I have to have these plants completely done as we're leaving on vacation. the biggest one is about 12" above the surface of the soil medium. Are they ready to flower yet? These are just my practice plants, as this is my first grow. tomorrow, they will be 42 days old + germination time. I have read to give them an initial 24-48 hours of complete darkness in order to flower, and then go to a 12-12 lighting schedule. what do you guys think? thanks!

you can turn a plant to flower whenever you want.

i gave mine 36 hours darkness then went 12 12

9 weeks is cutting it close for flowering time ... depending on strain..

sativas 12-14weeks
indica 8 weeks

these times are generally calculated using SOG (sea of green) and perfect environment

most first growers including myself dont use SOG and usually dont have perfect environment so you may want to invest in some ripener.
to use 10 days before your 9 weeks deadline

I think you'lll be alright as long as you don't have straight haze or something mainly sativa. A foot is a good size for you to flower them anyway. It doesn't seem like you're ready to train big plants. I wouldn't worry about putting them into days of dark. Just switch the light over to 12/12 and you won't have any chance of stunted growth.

thanks guys, I just used bag seed, so i'm not sure what strain it is, and again, i wont be really concerned if i screw it up, as i'm just trying to learn so when i get back i can start some good seeds that I got from a friend.

^ what he said thin leaves = sativa wide leaves=indica, and they can also be a mix of the two at any ratio. 1ft is fine to start flowering. Some people go 12/12 from seed. Some people wait to see alternating nodes and/or preflowers. Either way you will get results :)

Id start flowering now, most strains are 8-10 weeks, and like someone said if the environment is not optimal, that can add unexpected time to flowering. If you start now though I'd bet you'll have some pretty decent bud in 9 weeks.

Good Luck

You should try to take a clone of your plant also. Who knows....you could love it. Then you would never have to deal with seed again. ...or males

and another rule of thumb for flowering is expect it to double in size some even go bigger than that so put into flower at about 1/2 of what u want them to end up at
