Are there any downsides to

forcing your plants to sex early? My plants are nearly 6 weeks old and i'm not in any exact rush to sex them or put them into flowering state yet (i'll probably start at 12 weeks depending on the size my plant gets). I can't see any sign of the sex i'm just curious thats all incase i do want to try.

Not a problem. Some people flower plants from seed then revert for clones. Or even continue to flower them. You are perfectly safe at 6 weeks. Although....6 weeks is generally enough time to see preflowers, some strains take longer than others I guess.

Yes there is a down side.Look at it from a long term stand point.

A sexually mature plant will produce more bud, bigger buds & more bud sites,if you allow a plant to become mature on its own, then take clones each clone will be exactly as mature as it's mother & offer larger buds over plants that are from genetics that have been force sex'ed.

If you plan on cloning it's worth the extra few week wait.

Very true, I guess I was just considering down sides to be things that would harm the plant or screw up it's growth cycle. Mature plants do begin to flower quicker and tend to produce bigger better buds. Although I have read much about SOG growers who claim a plant flowered from seed can produce the same quality bud as a plant that was vegged out properly to maturity.

I dunno if I can clone my plants if they are female as I only have room for the 2 plants. Shame really.

to answer your question though, there can be a downside. It's all about height vs space. if you have plenty of space then hell ya veg as long as you want. Remember though that a plant will double to triple during flowering. I made that mistake now i got huge ass plants i don't know what to do with.

oh hell yea, you joggin the plant? if you are i would jog it all the way around in one circle than let it veg for one week then switch to flower. maybe try ScrOG to increase your yield. Especially you don't have much height.

yeah i'm gonna get it all the way round the pot before doing anything. ScrOG! whats that?

jogging mean to bend the plant down around the inside area of the pot in a circle and staking it down. it forms a big circle around the inside of the pot. all the side branches that usually grow horizontally from the inter node are now growing vertically like a individual cola.

Screen of green. you put chicken wire above the pot and let the plant grow into it. then as soon as its about to come through the screen you pull in back under and move it to a new location so that all the tops of the colas have they're own spot. so all the bug sites get maximum light. there are tutorials on here somewhere.

Lst or Low Stress Training would be the bending and tying around the inside of the pot, he is suggesting you put a screen at the top after you have done your lst, when the plants get taller. Normally with scrog you remove all of the stems and leave that are below the screen, I am not sure this will work the way you want. VV
