are the biggest plants always lanky?

i have plants that are regular sized, and they produce normal buds. I also have a HUGE plant that is growing buds slowly and... straggly. this happens every season; is it the plant and just pure luck, or is there some correlation between huge plants and small buds? will they ever grow to full size?

I get big buds off the big plants .the nuggs where from the size of my elbow to the tip of my fingers.

You probably just have a late flowering sativa bro. The taller lanky plants with long thin leaves are sativa. The shorter busy with wide leaves are indica. Normally indica flowers faster and finishes around 8 weeks. Sativas normally will take up to 12 weeks to finish. If you are growing outside and experiencing cold weather, that could also slow down growth at times. There is a lot to factor in my friend!
