This is my first grow, I cant find a proper magnifying glass in town. Going to have to order one. but in the mean time, I have four plants, the smallest might be nearing harvest. I have read about the pistils turning colors, but should I wait until the entire pistil turns amber, or do only the tips of them change color? anyway here is some pictures, any advice?

and i must say!!!! Beautiful job on first time!!! they are beginning to fade at right time and look healthy. Fantastic!!

not all trichs turn amber, and the difference in potency is hard to tell sometimes. I usually harvest when hairs are 95% red sometimes 100%

the whole trichome technique is funny. some guys will let them go 2-3 weeks or more past waiting for trichs. the plant is dying at that stage.

okay 2-4 weeks sounds good to me, but I should wait until the pistils are mostly red. Thanks Velvet Elvis. I have attempted a few grows before, but all turned out hermies, so hopefully this is my first successful grow. outdoors is much easier then indoors.

Yep, 15-30 days, nice looking girl you got there, resist the urge to chop her early, you will not regret letting her go these last few weeks. Very nice job.

Get you a cheap jewellers loupe from Amazon or ebay. Like ten bucks or so, range is something like 10x50.

if you dont have a loop you will notice that there is a visable change at the very end of flower. Some strains it is easier to see then others. The calyx IME just give an extra swell when they are screaming pick me and the hairs receed into the bud which at that point should be ready

great grow by the way judging by the way you cared for those ladies you will be fine and are on your way to many more amazing grows

Dude, those are some GREAT looking plants! Healthy as FUCK!!

The two biggies to look for are calyxes and pistils.

Look through some grow logs and take note of how the pistils go from looking thick, white, and stringy and long at the beginning of the flower, to thin, red / brown / orange and receded at the end of flower. Once the calyxes are fat and the overwhelming majority of the pistils are receded and brown / red, then she's done.

They are not close to done yet bro your going to have nice size buds come mid October, just wait until they really swell they will definitely look swollen the pistils will turn red shrink and curl then you take em down probably near or at frost. People say there is a magic time to take them down and its all truth. But I find in my outdoor trials at least, the longer you leave them out there given the plant isnt obviously dying the better. I had a farmer keep his indicas out past the third or fourth frost just putting garbage bags over the plants at night. The buds got to the size of 2ltr bottles and the stone was intoxicatingly potent.

Your plants can be harvested now and you will still get high but from here every week you let it stay out there your bud will get stronger and your yield heavier.
