Are my buds too small?

I'm using a 600w hps light in soil. Using general hydroponics floragro trio for nutes. I started flowering at about week 5 of veg. They've been flowering for about 4-5 weeks now and I just feel like the buds should be way bigger. Also is it okay for the leaves to be yellowing right now? The lowest fan leaves are slowly turning and then falling off. Any help is appreciated!

I mean you defoliated quite a bit. Plants look like they have been stressed for a period of time. So yea buds should be bigger you should have a lot more bud on them as well. Looks like you will be able to finish just fine so you will have some home grown to smoke!!!! Advice would be, next time keep it simple. Come on here and ask a few questions or search the threads. Welcome to the boards bro!!!!

Yeah I agree, they were kept in a way to hot room for the first month or so. About 95 degrees, but as far as defoliation I only took off the leaves as they died.

Do you have a ppm pen? If not you should invest in one. When I started I figured "pfft fuck that." But for 50-100$ it doesn't take much bud to pay that back. And it will more then pay for itself in the first grow!

You take a ppm(part per million) of your tap water and it can read whatever then add your nutes and take another ppm of it and that will tell you exactly how strong your nute solution is. Also get a ph pen. Or if cash is tight you can get a Manuel test kit for like 10$. This one you fill a vial up 1/2 way and 3 drops of the stuff they give you to the vial and shake and then compare the color to the chart that comes in the kit. It's not exact but it will give you an idea of it. If it's to high you can use lemon juice to get the ph down a bit!

Oh okay cool! I do have a ph tester and my water is about 6.2. Thanks for the help

Ill give you some advice.

Your bud weight is relative to the strength and vigor of your solar panel (leaves) before you flip to 12/12.

Its like this:

We are light farmers:

If you don't have a whole solar panel of leaves to trap the light (sun) , before you switch to 12/12 then your grow will be shit.

like it is for you currently., you waste - time and money.

So next time before you flip to 12/12 make sure you have 30cm x 30 cm full healthy leaf cover (7 finger not 5 leaf fingers)per plant before you flip.

Hm... My plants are kinda parallel to yours, except I am a lazy grower... I bought cheap soil, cheap fert (mixed into the soil before planting), and used water straight from the tap... my plants are about the same age as yours... vegged for 6 weeks, now at week 4 of flower... I topped and mildly LSTd mine.. so none of my stems/branches look nearly as long, and there's a lot more bud sites... but what I notice most (aside from the quantity and size of the buds... which yeah I seem to have more and bigger) is that mine have a lot more leaves. A few even still have the first fan leaves they grew (which are relative huge now, and mostly dying). I've really hardly lost any leaves, over all (maybe 10-15%).

I did a lazy veg... just put the plants in the corner under some home cfl lights, and not nearly enough of them... 480wats max total... temps were mostly low 50's-mid 60's.

So your plants arnt parallel to his?

It look like you're using 5 gallon buckets for pots. IMHO those are the absolute worst choice for growing.
How many and how big drainage holes did you drill?
I've seen that so many times from new growers with problems. After you harvest dump that soil out onto a tarp or something, I think you'll find the lower part of your soil will be almost devoid of roots and soil will very wet and possibly even smell bad. It's probably loaded with salts and might be even be anaerobic.
For your next grow ditch the buckets and buy fabric smartpot or knockoffs. Then get the ppm pen as mentioned above.

5 gallon buckets work perfectly fine for growing as long as there is drainage holes in the bottom.

So I'm thinking I both flowered too early and let the temperature get way too high. I've fixed the temp problem with ventilation and what not. I guess next grow let them get bigger first! Thanks a lot guys appreciate the love

If You have a set of leaves per plant before flipping you will yield ok..

OK
do a side by side 5 gallon bucket vs 5 gallon nursery pot vs 5 smart pot and get back to me
I have used fabric pots and they work good but not everyone has the access to them. Why doesn't he just set up a areoponics grow that will work even better. My point is there's more then one way to grow and to say 5 gallon buckets don't work is just ignorant, I don't use them, I till the ground and add my supersoil. But I have a friend uses them every year and gets 5 pounds of his 6 plants and they grow 8-9 feet tall. They work fine. I'm not sure where you got the idea they don't?
