arctic alpine 11 heatsink with CBX3590

Hi guys,

Can an AA11 heatsink be used with CBX3590's, most people on here seem to be using extruded heat sinks for big light panels but i will be growing in a pretty small cab and would like to use 2 cobs, 1 each side of my 65w hans panel.

basically i plan to run 2 x CBX2590's with the HLG-120H-C1050 which will give off approx 75w of heat each so the AA11 rated for 100W would be great.

Can anyone tell me if this will work? i would love to have a passively cooled light for extra stealth but maybe not practical,

i used the DIY COB calulator to get these numbers

2 x COB: CBX3590 CD 72V 3500k
amperage: 1.05A
total heat watts: 76

and supra's table said the HLG-120H-C1050 will drive 2.1 of these

OK sorry your right guys my mistake that's even better 38w awesome!

that does mean a passive heat sink is possible, any reduction in noise is welcome no matter how quite, can anyone recommend a passive heat sink, should i aim for 50w to be safe?

just guna copy pickledlsd and use the AA 64 plus rated for 100w so maybe in the next year or 2 when they are cheap i will drive them really hard n see what happens

Just to clarify, if you want to have 76w total with that driver, you need to be looking at the CXB3590 36V.

72v
x 1.05A = 76w each

so if i still use my original combination i will need 76w cooling on each cob, so i will need to go with the AA64 plus anyway.

This will still work the cobs will just be pushed twice as hard?

Mossy, for what it's worth, I wired up 4 of the alpine 64 plus fans to a mean well apv 12-12 last night. I was worried they would be loud and "wooshy" but to my surprise all 4 of them running at the same time was VERY quiet. My wife was sitting next to me and even commented on how they were nearly silent. No need to worry about noise from 2.

Will that driver push your cobs at 75w each? Better double check that.
You were right, I just forgot that they come in 72v as well. I've always liked the idea of an actively cooled heatsink that is capable of running passive. You will get more light when running them cooler and still safe if a fan fails.

I use that setup. The driver, 72 volt COB's, and heat sink, are all compatible. It's a 150 watt driver. 75 watts/COB

I like that setup. And, 4 36 volt Cree COBS with the HLG-185-1400

You have got me thinking about the fan failing now hmmm

Has anyone installed a relay say between the fan power supply and the cob so that if the fan does fail or for what ever reason there cob doesn't get power and over heat ?

Relays are cheap and cud save expensive cobs burning out, and because it will only turn off one cob your plant should be ok infill u fix it

@stardustsailor designed a light that had thermal protection that would shut down the led if it got to hot. Maybe a thermocouple of some sort hooked up to a relay, not really sure. I just leave my fans on all the time and check them periodically.
