Anybody rent apartments and ever have any problems? Is it a good idea to do an apartment grow if you deadbolt the bed room or closet?

I was able to grow in a studio apt. where the maintenance people would come in every month to change the air filters and was able to get away with it. But then again we also had a rottweiler that scared the hell outta the maintenance guy. So yeah its possible

I dont advise it. When I was renting an apartment maintence would come in every few months to change the air filter. They give you a few days notice. I got a call at work one day and they said the unit below me had water coming through the ceiling and needed to get in to my apartment immediately to stop the leak, I said sure go ahead(not growing at the time but still had pipes around). They call back to appologize, they had the wrong unit number and called by mistake, idiots had me freakin out for 10 minutes. So you see, they may have to come in one day, maybe one day your not expecting it, yeah and I know these are freak circumstances here but the point being it could happen. So If you must grow in apartment, at least do it very stealth.

My first grow was in an apartment, but I built a nice and big indoor wooden cabnit that was completely light proof had power run in through back and looked like a big dresser, cost me about six hundred dollars to build and stain and all that but worked great without anyone ever questioning a thing. It just looked like another piece of bedroom furniture.

Well i have a secret jardin and i was either gonna put it in the closet of the spare bd.room and put a deadbolt on the door or just keep it in the spare room so i have a lot of space 2 work with and deadbolt that door.

I'm doing one right now, I had the apartment inspected for termite 2 days ago, I just had to box it all up and stash it in the closet. They were inside for a total of 2 minutes, in and out! Unless it's an emergency they will give you at least 24 hrs notice just be ready to pack your shit up fast if need be, I can do it in like 15 minutes or so. And I changed the lock on my bedroom door.

Deadbolts on doors in an apartment is going to look fishy to maintenence, they arent that stupid, they know theres something in there you dont want them to see. The only way I would do it, stealth as hell. Stealth like what medgrower49 did, that sounds perfect.

Hey medgrower49, got any pics of that setup you made, sounds nice.

what is a deadbolt going to do, i`ve yet to see one made that can stop anybody. but they do look nice and shiny. if you can handle stress and paranoia every minuite the grow is happening then go for it. i used to sneek and to me it`s not worth the headache. outdoors is less stress. or like me have liscence now.

( i wasn`t making fun of you about the deadbolt) :peace:

no its cool bonz, yea anybody can break down a dead bolted door but only if you give reason too. I figured if any suspicion rose i could easily say theres expensive broadcast equipment in there and i have to keep it locked cuz its not exactly a safe complex. That could work maybe?

No excuse could make me think you werent up to something with a deadbolt on a bedroom or closet door. Its just not common to see that, I know because Im in peoples homes all the time with my job and usually have free run of the house, not once have a seen a deadbolt inside like that. It would arouse my attention then of course Id have to check it out. Oh and another thing, I pick locks as a hobby, learned from a friend that does maintenence at an apartment complex. Unless you buy an expensive deadbolt, Ill have it open in under 30 seconds, most locks are VERY easy to pick, youd be surprised. There just a false sense of security, now be smart about it and do it stealth if you must grow

I would maybe try some lowryders but not normal plants due too smell issues, theres just more risk in apartments.

What locks would you recomend?

Schlage locks for residential homes have incorporated an extra pin designed to prevent picking, they are the hardest locks to pick that are commonly seen, of coarse theres a ton of locks that are much more advanced and require special picks to bypass them but its not common to see those and they are expensive. Kwik Set is a joke, by far easiest Ive encountered, I can open any Kwik Set lock in only a few seconds, if you werent paying attention, youd think I used a key.
