I live in Nevada right now about 10 miles away from the California border. I need to obtain a California ID card/or drivers license (preferably ID card). I was wondering if I have to have a physical address in California in order to obtain a California ID card?? Im trying to get a CA id card so i can take advantage of its medical marijuana. Any help would be appreciated. THANKS

You have to be a CA resident to get an ID card, although the doctor I went to never asked for any state ID.

Edit: By CA resident, I mean yeah you do have to have a physical address in the state.

I'm not sure, but to become a full Californian don't you have to live there for like a year? When i was looking at colleges in California it said you had to live there for a year before you could get instate tuition. I don't know if its even close to the same thing but there's my 2 cents.

You show that you are a resident for more than a year by showing a date-marked bill (eletric, water...Anything) with a CA address and your name.

Never under estimate the computer!

A few years ago a friend of mine went back to the state that he grew up in & his parents still lived. While he was there he was invited to go quail hunting. He bought a 'resident' hunting license.

About a year later he got a letter from that other state's Attorney General with a ticket for $1,000 for hunting illegally, or they would like his state income taxes from the last year!

He paid the G!

Damn computers!

Just a thought!

So, basically, in order to get a California ID I can use a friends address and that would work fine eh? I know its not a must to get a CA state ID to get medical pot, but, i don't know if the doctors office would ask for one....from what I've read some require it and some dont.

Just call up the doctor you plan to use beforehand. Tell them you've been living with family here in CA for about a year now, and that you only have NV identification.

You'll find one who agrees within the first 3 tries, if not the first try, these doctors want their money too ;)

lol haha its not that easy my friend, you cant just drive to cali and get your med card just like that, your far mistaken, these doctors are professionals at what they do and to make a statment to say "the dcotors want their money too" sounds ridiculous, that money you hand over does not go in his pocket those doctors will get paid if they dont have one patient all day. Anyways when i went and got mine they asked for everything so i doubt you think your just gonna slide by

I had something similar in maryland. In 2003 i was given a script for back trauma <spelling> I refused the normal medication like perks and shit i dont do scripts in the original sense. I was given the option of medical MJ. Well i smoke Mj anway so OHH doggie thats nice.. however.. I found out since I just moved from VA<virginia for you slower people> I couldnt use the script witha "Virginia Drivers license"///Had to have a post card or Bill stating i was recieving mail in Maryland which constitutes a viable residence in the state. Fucken Gaytard if you ask me.. Any I went and saw my bra and got my meds the old fashion way..

well it doesnt matter even if he does get a card in cali its a state card so it wont hold up in nevada like if i went to nevada with pot and said i have a liecense for it the cop would look at me and say ur not in cali

I've talked to a couple docs thus far one of which was in san fran, and they said you dont need an ID to get a script for medical pot. They said as long as you're in cali doing it its alright. However, in order to gain access to these pot dispensaries they have, you must have a valid california state ID card. I talked to a doc on the phone to make sure my diagnosed condition is eligable to be treated with maryjuany, and he said sure thing, so that isnt really an issue.

So, I guess Im going to have to make the drive to the closest california DMV and try to get a state ID card. Im thinking I'll have a PO Box set up in the nearest town as my mailing address since Im not really going to be at the physical address im going to give them. I believe they give you a temporary card and then the real ID card gets sent to your address within 30 or so days.

PS- I live about 2 hrs from a dispensary in CA. I know Nevada state law would not recognize a California medical marijuana ID card.

Thats why I suggested calling some doctors before hand to make sure it wasn't an issue. Many of these doctors give out the cards all the time to people without ailments, and they know damn well. Either they're just incredibly herb friendly, or theyre getting a chunk of the $150 appointments theyre getting all day.

My doctor seemed more involved with his cell phone than my insomnia, he basically just asked if I had taken over the counter sleeping pills before, asked about my sleeping history, and filled out the paperwork. I doubt this guy's gonna get a physical address in California, just to get medical cannabis, and I'm trying to explain how he might do it.

The OP says even the doctors said you don't need a CA ID to obtain a med card anyway. I guarantee you one of the hunreds of CA cannabis dispensaries would sell to you without a CA license. Just call a couple with the excuse I posted, I guarantee you it will happen.
